Latinos are a driving force of Georgia’s economy. Strong Latino population growth is fueling economic growth in a state that prides itself in being No. 1 for business. Yet, for all the prosperity they create, Latinos lag in economic and social equity. This is where the work of the Latin American Association comes in. For 50 years, the LAA has helped Latinos overcome the barriers to economic mobility and self-sufficiency. Along the way, its footprint has extended beyond Buford Highway, to Gwinnet County and northwest Georgia. The LAA is a one-stop shop. Here clients can come in for crisis intervention and immigrants can explore options to get immigration benefits. Adults can learn English and computer skills and connect with employers. Latinas can make their entrepreneurship dreams a reality. The LAA is the catalyst that moves Latinos toward achieving the American dream and enjoying prosperity. Georgia’s economy stands to gain from Latinos’ prosperity. When Latinos thrive, Georgia prospers.

Last month, 11Alive wrote a great article about the beautiful community Built on Buford Highway. ?? Our very own Santiago Marquez and Luis Andino were showcased, sharing their personal journey of giving back to the community that shaped them. As Santiago Marquez shares, “I’m proud of the fact that our community thinks of the LAA as their home, the place that they come to and get anything that they need.” The LAA has stood alongside the Latino community for half a century, empowering thousands of lives along Buford Highway and beyond. Luis Andino, adds, “I really am a product of all the people that helped raise me in and around this street.” He gave back through our youth programs, building a future for the next generation. ??
