Machine Cinema organizes some of the coolest in-person generative AI film events. These "Gen Battles" teach people how to use the latest tools and then challenges them to make short videos (with teams) in a couple hours. If you haven't been to one, we recommend you go. Nem Perez explains how 50 artists created a movie together and each directed their own scene. The film had a $0 budget and was created asynchronously around the world. Working with generative AI tools is categorically different than other tools. While most tools are deterministic and predictable, generative tools are not. Getting good results means being open to chance and improvisation.
