"As we celebrate 10 years of empowering early learning professionals, we reflect on the incredible dedication of educators who shape the futures of young children.” As said by our Director of Early Learning and Literacy Tyran Butler, Ph.D., reaching this ten-year milestone of early learning programming is a collaboration between the Center and the dedicated educators we serve. Since 2015, we have grown to offer 50+ courses and developed 1,000+ hours of online professional learning in English and Spanish, serving more than 40,000 educators. We had an amazing time welcoming our partners from education technology provider FeedbackFruits. Through our collaborative discussions, we discovered more opportunities for new interactive materials, self-assessment tools and ways to structure learning experiences.
It's been an absolute honor to visit FeedbackFruits Partner Institutions in Florida last week! From all the institutions we visited, a common theme stood out to me: The dedication of educators. So many are deeply committed to their students’ success, ensuring that learning is both impactful and meaningful, not just for future careers but for lifelong growth. A big thank you to University of South Florida, University of Florida, UF Lastinger Center for Learning, and Miami Dade College for such a warm welcome and engagement in the FeedbackFruits sessions. And of course, a BIG thank you to my wonderful colleagues Milou Maassen and Anirudh (Andy) Toshniwal for making these visits incredibly meaningful!

At #SXSWEDU2025, our Director of Mathematics Zandra de Araujo presented on how harnessing research platforms built for learning outcomes, like our Data Lagoon, can help foster student success. Along with Zandra, our Director Philip Poekert, and University of Florida College of Education affiliate faculty member Wanli Xing also shared the ALTER-Math tutoring project with attending professionals from across the nation.

It is always amazing to work with such passionate professionals to help enhance student success! We appreciate the dedication and love for learning our training participants bring when collaborating within Communities of Practice (CoP), the classroom and beyond.
I had the pleasure of attending the Community of Practice (CoP) Training by UF Lastinger Center for Learning for three incredible days in #Orlando. I can't even begin to express how eye-opening this experience was! Not only did I gain a deeper understanding of the #CoP model, but I also built meaningful connections that I truly value. A huge thank you to Jaquanda Davis, Erin Branton, and Catrena Patrick for being such amazing teammates. You embodied exactly what collaboration should look like—supporting each other, sharing openly, and growing together. By the end of the training, it felt like we had known each other for years! That’s the power of this experience. I also want to recognize the incredible facilitators who exceeded my expectations—their energy, passion, and expertise made this training truly impactful. I’m excited to apply everything I’ve learned and to continue fostering these connections. If you ever have the chance to attend a CoP training, I highly recommend it! #CommunityOfPractice #ProfessionalGrowth #Collaboration #UFLastinger

Explore how ALTER-Math uses AI to create a “learning-by-teaching” approach to improve middle school students’ math learning in this Q&A with The Learning Agency.
Wanli Xing, Ph.D.,?and his team at UF are actively researching and building an AI-powered tutoring platform to help students learn algebra. He recently sat down for a Q&A with The Learning Agency to explain how?ALTER-Math?uses AI-powered “teachable agents” to improve learning outcomes regardless of students’ levels of prior knowledge. Funded by the?Learning Engineering Virtual Institute?(LEVI), the project will be incorporated into the UF Lastinger Center for Learning’s Math Nation tool, potentially expanding its reach to millions of students.
