I helped someone with stage 4 cancer create their last messages. I could have just sent a testing link to Last Farewells. Instead, I got on a plane to do it in person. Nick was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at 37. His sister-in-law DM’d me on Instagram, and when I heard his story, I knew a link wasn’t enough. I flew to his home in Texas to create a personalized Last Farewells experience to make creating Last Messages easier. We meditated. Ate his favorite food. Made messages for his mom, wife, and son. Set up his memorial page on Last Farewells. Had a birthday-like ending celebration. And then, thanks to the generosity of people who get it, we got his bucket list item sponsored: witnessing a NASA space launch at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. No KPI. No ROI. I even paid out of pocket for everything else. Maybe it’s not scalable. or maybe it’s not the most “efficient” use of a founder’s time. But it was right. And I’d do it again in a heartbeat. ?? What really blows my mind is that none of this would have happened if I hadn’t shared my own story about why I joined Last Farewells. That one post led to a DM, which led to a conversation, that led to a flight, which led to this. Nick & Marissa, thank you for welcoming me into your home. Last Farewells was one of the 10 companies chosen by The Diary Of A CEO host Steven Bartlett for his spontaneous 24-hour pitch competition on Instagram stories earlier this month! I can't believe I even just typed that. For a startup in our early stages... this was huge. I almost didn’t apply, (doubt almost crept in). But at the last minute, I recorded and hit send on a 60-second pitch just hours later, out of thousands of entries, we made it. Our pitch was featured on Steven’s Instagram page for 24 hours. Steven has built a career around understanding what makes ideas, businesses, and people extraordinary. As an entrepreneur, investor (check out FLIGHTSTORY) , and Dragon on Dragon's Den, he’s constantly surrounded by world-class founders. Above all has been his honest character and high integrity. The fact that Last Farewells stood out to him (even for just a moment) was huge. ?? In my pitch, I leaned heavily into my story - how my dad’s last voice message inspired my journey and why leaving last messages that are delivered after ones passing, though a simple concept, really matters. ??? Thank you to Laura T. who sent it over to me and suggested I apply. Not even trying would have been the only guaranteed way to lose. I created a "Messages & Music for the soul" activation last month for East Ridge at Cutler Bay senior living (it was end of life planning with a twist). The musician I brought serenaded residents with their favorite songs and I got to teach more about Last Farewells—specifically, why and how last messages can be the greatest gift we leave behind. ?? Death isn’t joyful, but I can try making planning for it at least 1% more enjoyable than I will try my best. This is why I call myself a life enthusiast building death-tech! I also brought coffee, Cuban pastries, croquetas, and even got to see a resident light up when her favorite Elvis song was sung. My aim is to fill the emotional gap in current end of life planning (which primarily focuses on logistics and financials). In building Last Farewells, I knew that receiving a last message from someone who has passed should feel like a gift. ?? And though death is often associated with darkness, gifts tend to be colorful. I wanted a headshot that represented this concept and aligned with my own viewpoint that life is worth celebrating each day. So I got creative. My best friend laid on the floor to snap this picture on an iPhone 13 Pro, my family threw envelopes in the air, and a Fiverr editor made minor adjustments. ?? ?????????????? ??????????????????: ? $12 for envelopes (for that joyful, love-letter effect) ? $10 for a Fiverr photo editor (to enhance colors, make my business card clear & add a few more envelopes) ? $0 for labor (thanks to the people who love me ??) ? $0 for creativity (the sky was free, and so was the vision!) The total cost... $22! Last year I was featured in my first magazine for Last Farewells, I didn't think much of it, until my mom (who is a housekeeper) told me she took the magazine to her a job and showed everyone in the office, including the CEO! She was so proud. I absolutely teared up because it made the harder moments of being a founder worth it. Beyond thankful to Kera Sanchez who created Get Griefy Magazine to showcase all the people and organizations helping grievers. I could have never imagined I'd be building an end of life planning platform for last messages, but it definitely helps to have people like Kera in the industry who are so committed in helping us uplift each other. One minute, I’m grabbing a pastry at FounderMade's Executive Summit—24 hours later, I’m on stage, spontaneously pitching Last Farewells to The Players Impact, a community for professional Athletes who invest in early stage startups… all thanks to that pastry. ??? I live for these divine encounters. While in the breakfast line, Matt Savarick struck up a conversation with me about my breakfast choice. I joked that working in the death industry reminds me how short life is—so yes, the pastry was absolutely worth it. That small moment led to a deep conversation about Last Farewells and his own experiences with grief. Near the end of the day, as the summit was wrapping up, Matt suddenly rushed to find me. He introduced me to George Ricciardelli at The Players Impact. Less than 24 hours later, I was standing on stage, pitching in front of incredible judges who believed in wellness driven ideas. Honestly, I almost backed out. I was nervous. I didn’t feel "ready." But I couldn't deny an opportunity that serendipitous. This pitch competition would have never happened if Matt hadn't taken the time or make the effort to find me—but he did. And that small act of generosity changed everything.
