Investing in students not at the beginning of their journey, but right at the point where one small financial barrier could derail everything is delivering real results. I have been on the road quite a bit this month, but still review and approve financial awards for Last Mile Education Fund students from wherever I am. Here's a short list of hurdles we've helped students overcome just this week: - $856 to help a NYC senior in Computer Science pay her electric bill. She has a job waiting for her at a Wall Street bank in June and just needs to make it a few more weeks. Our investment removed significant stress from her life, allowing her to focus on finishing strong and preparing for her new career. - $1200 to replace a laptop for a college Junior in computer science. Her machine from 2022 could not be repaired. Having a dedicated high-quality device will enable her to complete her classes, get good grades and compete for opportunities like internships and jobs. -$2403 to help a college Junior in cybersecurity pay for rent, transportation and food until starting an internship this summer. It is staggering how little funding it takes to get a striving student over the critical last mile - and guess what, it works - Last Mile students are graduating at a rate of 74% Join us Wednesday, April 30 to celebrate serving 10,000 students just like these and learn more about how we are reimagining student aid.

I never could have predicted I’d be at a global HR conference, but thanks to our board member Shelly Morales of MoralesHR, I’m at Transform 2025 in Vegas meeting some of the most passionate HR leaders working to make workplaces good places. It was great to hear insights on the changing DEI landscape from Donald Knight and learn from the lifetime of leadership experience from the incredible Ursula Burns. I got to catch up IRL with Lisa Gelobter and Britt Provost, and thanks to Pave fulfilled a lifetime dream of competing in the Showcase Showdown (I was $1 under!!!).
