We're excited to announce that Last Loop Metals, part of #technology incubator Chevron Studio's "Cohort 2," has been selected for the program's Scale-up Phase. Congratulations to entrepreneur Catherine (Berner) Ember and Chevron Studio technology partner Georgia Institute of Technology. Last Loop Metals is developing a non-toxic approach to extracting rare earth elements from industrial waste, like coal fly ash. Recovered materials can reduce the need for new metals used in some manufacturing, such as for wind energy and electric vehicles. Developed at Georgia Tech, the technology uses a closed-loop system and commonly available chemicals. It is designed to extract the metals without harming people or ecosystems. Last Loop Metals was selected based on the company's engagement with the technology partner, background in climate tech commercialization, and the company's vision to bring circular economy practices to the mining industry. In this phase of the program, Last Loop Metals will increase the production capacity of the technology through partnership with Georgia Tech. Chevron Studio, launched from a partnership between Chevron Technology Ventures and National Renewable Energy Laboratory, pairs entrepreneurs with IP from national labs and universities. The program is designed to bridge the gap between exciting new technologies and the market. Follow this space for additional announcements. #innovation #chevron #circulareconomy
