The Most “Okayest” Law Enforcement Snipers in Louisiana Dedicated to the Professional Development of the LE/SWAT Sniper

关于我们

What started as way to be able to train during COVID restrictions, and share training ideas with other teams in Louisiana, has grown beyond what we ever thought possible with the first social media post. With our largest amount of followers on Instagram of confirmed LEO snipers who’ve been redirected and validated through our website, to now entering the 5th year of our SWAT Sniper Skills Symposium, we finally feel like we are starting to make an impact. It takes a village however, or better a community. We learn just as much from those whom we interact with, and send it forward to others in the community. This has been supported further by our founder being asked to be the American Sniper Association Region 3 Representative in early 2024, to provide resources to LE snipers in AL, AR, FL, GA, LA, MS, and TN. And with all the amazing support each year shown by the ASA, SniperCraft, and other trailblazing LE sniper instructors who generously volunteer their time at our event each year. To which, our 5 day event is provided to snipers in Louisiana and across the US, at no cost, through Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Mark Garber.

The Chair: A Sniper’s Secret Weapon In the world of the law enforcement sniper, every advantage counts. While precision, patience, and practice are paramount, one unusual ally has emerged from the shadows: the humble chair. This unexpected piece of furniture has proven to be more than just a place to sit; it’s a versatile tool that enhances shooting positions in ways that might surprise you. We all know stability is crucial. A sniper can use a sturdy chair to create a makeshift shooting platform very quickly, whereby not only enhancing stability, but let’s be honest…comfort too. By resting the rifle on the chair’s backrest, the sniper can reduce body movement, enhancing accuracy. It’s important to note that it is always best to place something soft (like an @armageddongear Game Changer) between your rifle and the hard surfaced back rest. Here are a few different ways to use a chair(s) to create a shooting platform based on your circumstances and/or amount of equipment. 1. ?? Example of staged interior hide. Same set up as in pic #2, just without material draped over. 2. ?? Two chairs, using both top of pack and bag over top of chair. Easy to access items in pack. 3. ?? Two chairs, pack across lap to fill “void,” and rest into for more stability. 4. ?? Two chairs, bag on backrest, sling use for more stability. 5. ?? One chair, bag on backrest, sling use. Sling really helps here because as body falls back it creates counter pressure and steadies rifle. 6. ?? One chair, pack slung “cross body,” bag on backrest. 7. ?? One chair, pack cross body, “slouching” into chair, creating counter pressure against pack, staying low. Could also use sling too. 8. ?? One chair, tripod, hand/weight of arm really just “hanging” at bipod leg. Remember, we might be here awhile. 9. ?? One chair, tripod higher than normal standing for obstacle clearance. 10. ?? One chair, tripod rear stability, bag on backrest. #sniper #snipers #policesnipers #swat #swatsniper #snipertraining #americansniperassociation

Tripod/Pack Hasty Deployment Have been exploring hasty kneeling positions utilizing tripod whilst remaining stowed in pack rifle scabbard (you could do same if stowed on side) and when/where it might be used. This drill here just working through the “what if,” and getting pack off and gun up and on target as quickly and efficiently as possible, going through elements of the Pre-Shot Process to include popping scope caps. ?? Scenario rapid deployment getting to position for hostage situation 60yd away. Need to quickly establish solid shooting platform while minimizing exposure. Will have to go support side as a left handed shooter. Push pack against bumper to help stabilize and left leg up to support non-shooting arm and push into pack with gun resting in semi-firm Hog Saddle ARCA Swiss attached to a Two Vets Tripods 55mm ball head and tripod in an Eberlestock Operator Pack #sniper #snipers #swat #policesnipers #swatsnipers #snipertraining

BRASS A few weeks ago during the @tacflow_academy Police Sniper Response to Public Venue course, the Pre-Shot Process (PSP) was really hammered home. Certainly when you were shooting 2” diamonds on a portable MGM Bullet Trap, there is not a lot of room for error, but there never is. So “controlling the controllable,” through the PSP, should be a staple for us whenever we get behind the rifle. The use of BRASS is a familiar pneumonic for the actual Shot Process (Breath-Relax-Aim-Sight-Squeeze or Stop), and just elongated here working from the tip of the barrel back. B-Barrel Tip and Back-Check tightness of suppressor and bipod R-Range-Matches elevation knob setting and windage (if applicable) A-Adjust-Parallax of needed S-Seat-Magazine fully, chamber round S-Safety-On or bolt up and finger off trigger till ready to fire If you’ve been on the gun long enough and have ever disregarded one of the PSP and something was out of whack, you possibly chased your shots. This writer has. When we remove from rifle case we should PSP, and when we put away we should put back in POST condition. Everything set to our original zero, optic powered down, no round in chamber, and ensure the suppressor and bipod did not walk during shooting. Of course some situations will not allow for all PSP to take place, but minding our elevation/windage settings and parallax are essential and could mean the difference between success or failure…and even negligence. #snipers #sniper #swat #swatsniper #policesniper #snipertraining #sniperrifle

Putting It All Together This writer laid out a number of tasks and things I wanted to test today on the range, but I was running short on time. Admittedly, I spent too much time cleaning and zeroing a couple of sentimental safe queens that have been in storage.?An @officialhsprecision Pro Series 2000 Takedown and an original @pofusa P308 *Made some upgrades today w the B5 stock, new grip and break for suppressor. By the time I got done with all of this however, cloud cover had thickened and it was 5pm and losing light fast. And had not gotten started on my other tasks. 1. Shoot on silhouette target at 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, and 200 all holding on same POA with 100yard zero. This was going to be to show newer snipers not to overthink things in terms of “dialing and holdover.” For myself, if within 100 yards, and hostage situation, time permitting, dial. If not, my holdover out to 300 my known bullet drop to be, not me trying to find little sub tended lines on the fly. 2. Stress Set-Up Shoot Drills with new @two_vets_tripods since finally replacing my very faithful PIG after almost 10 years.? 3. Test run some Federal GMM 175 (not for duty) through my @kmwlrs Zealot? 4. Take some shots in low light behind wall of light simulating a callout from THU night whereas myself and another were shielded head on to suspect by alley lights and recessed back. “Shoot out of the light.” Segmenting each task out was a no-go. However, this presented a perfect opportunity to “Put It All Together.” And reason for sharing is because this is a way you can approach training days too, especially when trying to follow the @americansniperassociation Recommended Training Matrix. Get creative! (Sunlight dropped behind trees) Start 25 yard line, tripod collapsed and on ground, along w rifle. On buzzer setup tripod and took one shot holding on 100 yard POA. Reset everything and went to 50 yard line quickly. *Same at 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200. *Kept set-up/shot off under 1 min. Note: @125 yard had to turn vehicle headlights…too dark Only a 4” spread between 25-200 yards. Don’t overthink it fellas! #sniper #snipers #swat #swatsniper #policesnipers

Cold Bore Tracking! FREE Cold Bore Recorder Download and Build a Reusable Holder for the Team. We all have a sniper from Harris County SWAT in TX to thank for this. He sent a DM asking about how we Cold Bore tracked, and it finally got us off our butts to finish up this downloadable sheet and board concept. The sheet is designed to shoot up to 20 1” circles and plot where your cold bore is trending over each trip to the range. This is more of a tool you staple 5-6 to a cardboard, and leave at range for snipers to only use. You can see the whole team’s cold bore data in one spot for each training day. Or any time a sniper goes to the range and wants to get the cold bore shot in can record here. Each circle is approximately 1” and the grid is 1/2” squares for point of reference. Each circle also has a number within to reference in your data book or digital data book like the one used here from @shadow_hog_llc The holder is built using some foam backed poster board (could use reg cardboard) and non-glare standard weight sheet protectors. These are duct taped on 3 sides leaving the tops open to slide in Cold Bore Tracker. After all 20 have been shot on one sheet pull out recorder sheet and save for records and replace sheet protector. Of course the whole intent here is to see the consistent trend of where your Point of Impact is each first shot. No matter what time of day, lighting conditions, etc. Generally at your Zero distance of 100yds. Download available at LASNIPERS.org under FREE Downloads: Cold Bore Recorder #snipers #sniper #swatsniper #swat #policesniper #americansniperassociation #snipertraining

Partners Lessons and Reminders Part 2. @tacflow_academy Police Sniper Response to a Public Venue One very unique thing about the Tacflow PSRPV course is you are partnered up into a shooter/spotter team. Also, they will partner you with someone from another agency. This writer openly admits due to a personal career choice the past 11 months, my op tempo and regular personal training tempo has dropped, but still maintaining team training. I’ve always been someone who really has to work at their shooting and work through over confirming shots for speed. I had the opportunity to attend the PSRPV, and it aligned with some personal goals of laying out my daily training regime again, if even just 18 mins of dry fire positional (18 min a day x 365 = 100 hour rule). I’ve already shared my cluster Day 1 on rev’ing up my turret, and Day 2 I had two other smaller hiccups. 1. On a standing tripod shot the wind was blowing me and as I held into it while squeezing the shot my rear foot slipped on a greasy spot on the concrete. This put me 4” off my 2” Diamond. You go off backer you go home and you are forever “that guy.” 2. At an improvised positional station, while tensioning my sling, and adjusting pack across my lap, my gun rolled over and windage turret smacked the railing. It was only a 4” drop, but I had to raise my hand and be done for the day till I could re-zero next. By the end of this day, I felt like what a former Marine Major I knew used to say “Monkey screwing a football.” And then here comes my partner. An LSP Sniper. Made sure to get me setup on their range for re-zero. Made sure we were in good comms and calling shots throughout the rest of the course. 95% of the shots you will take during course are called. Was there to remind me to shake it off when needed. By the 2nd half of the 3rd day my head was coming around, and having a good teammate helped. And by the 4th day, well, a couple of old guys gave 11 other teams a little competition. We might not have been first, but as 2nd, we were certainly 2nd to none; because we worked as a “sniper team.” #snipers #swatsniper #policesnipers

**Control the Controllable** Over the next several days, I will share insights from my experience at the @tacflow_academy Police Sniper Response to Public Venue Course. A significant lesson emerged on Day One, serving as a crucial reminder. The course initiated with an assessment of our shooting abilities in order to shoot in a stadium. Participants cycled through various stations with tripods, packs, and shooting bags. At the final station, led by Tacflow Instructor Josh Nilson (@sierraone702 @dark_horse_tactical), we had to shoot from a folding chair, a tank trap, and a VTAC wall, all with some degree of wobble. During this time, rain was increasing, and reducing visibility of impacts on target. Starting at the tank trap, I positioned my Game Changer with my rifle sling secured tightly, placing my first two shots into a 2-inch diamond at 100 yards from a supported standing position. After transitioning to kneeling, I had another good hit before moving to the VTAC. As the rain intensified, I tried to find a stable low position on the VTAC. I eventually found my ideal position with only about a 1 MOA wobble up and down. I fired a shot that felt solid. My partner confirmed impact, and I felt a surge of confidence. This success continued as I shot from the VTAC and the folding chairs; I felt completely in the zone. However, when we examined our targets, I eagerly anticipated seeing my rounds in the diamond. I was number 22, with number 18 directly above me, but to my surprise, I only counted three hits on 22, while number 18 had double the expected rounds. Initially, I suspected an issue with my rifle. When instructors approached, one mentioned, “You may have bumped and rev’d up your turret.” I checked and confirmed this was true. This experience reinforced the lesson of “Control the controllable.” It highlights the importance of a pre-shot process, even during training. As I prepared to align my target with my optic, I realized I should have confirmed my elevation—a mistake I had written about before. Feeling embarrassed, I returned to the classroom to share my experience as a reminder for everyone. #snipers #policesnipers #sniper #swat
