LVMWD Board and staff were proud to invite some of our most influential and consequential colleagues from our community, the water industry and our dedicated elected representatives to celebrate the next step toward "guilt free" water. Our partner OceanWell was able to demonstrate for attendees how their innovative technology is creating a sustainable desalination solution that will unlock vital drinking water sources here in California and across the globe. Thank you to everyone including Metropolitan Water District of Southern California for investing in this pilot study and for General Manager Deven Upadhyay, Board members Michael Camacho, Jacque McMillan, Anthony Fellow, and LVMWD Board Member and MWD Representative Jay Lewitt. LVMWD Board members including LVMWD Board President Andy Coradeschi, Len Polan, Randy Levine, and Gary Burns , along with General Manager David W. Pedersen, and Assistsnt General Manager Don Patterson were present to host the community. We were honored to have Senator Ben Allen (D-Santa Monica), and Assemblymember Nick Schultz (D- Burbank), and Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin (D-Thousand Oaks), support us and for sharing their thoughts on the future of water and sustainability efforts. State Water Resources Control Board member Sean Maguire was present to offer his thoughts on the promise of this technology and how it could benefit the States water supply portfolio if the progress continues. Countless other attendees came including City of Agoura Hills Councilmembers Deborah Klein Lopez, Mayor Pro Tem Jeremy Wolf, Mayor Penny Sylvester, and Chris Anstead, City of Calabasas Mayor Peter Kraut, Councilmembers Alicia Weintraub, and Ed Albright, City Of Westlake Village Mayor Kelly Honig, Mayor Pro Tem Sue Mcsweeney, Councilmembers Brad Halpern, and Ned E Davis, MBA. We so much appreciate the community wide support. Our partners from OceanWell including CEO Robert Bergstrom, engineer Mark Golay, P.E., Chief Business Officer Jonathan Haswell, Project Engineer Jaden Gilliam, Director of Outreach Charming Evelyn, and Water Policy Strategist Tim Quinn shared their journey to get us closer to a reliable water source using proprietary desalination technology with no environmental impacts. Kathleen Brown was also with us witnessing the future. Mark Gold from the NRDC attended, which was a great honor to have someone who champions environmental causes like no one else. It was also an honor to have Miguel Luna on behalf of the Fernande?o Tataviam Band of Mission Indians attend, and Tribal representative Tina Calderone of the Tongva/Chumash Indians who provided an incredible moving and meaningful blessing for the event. Our local Chambers of Commerce including the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce and CEO Lisa Clayden and Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce and CEO Danielle Borja also came to learn and support the event. It was truly a memorable day for this remarkable moment along this incredible journey!

Yesterday, SB 394 authored by Senator Ben Allen, co-sponsored by Association of California Water Agencies & Las Virgenes MWD, passed the Senate Local Government Committee unanimously, 7-0 and is now headed to the Senate Judiciary Committee! This important bill strengthens penalties for water theft from fire hydrants—helping local agencies better safeguard our vital water resources. Yesterday marked a milestone as LVMWD Board member and Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) Representative Jay Lewitt chaired his first meeting of the MWD Legislation and Communications Committee! With an agenda covering federal and state legislative updates, construction outreach, and external affairs, the committee is set to address critical current and future water reliability, quality, policy, and legislative related issues, along with increased public engagement. Both MWD General Manager Deven Upadhyay and MWD Board Chair Adán Ortega Jr. attended to support the new Chair. We could not be prouder of Director Lewitt and are certain that with his leadership, the 19 million people that rely on reliable, clean, and healthy water, daily, will continue to receive accurate information, and have an advocate for all of us at all levels of government.?Congratulations!
