Public and Private Company Board Member l Strategic Advisor l Mentor I Healthcare Executive I CEO Emeritus HSS

‘Next Chapter’ Milestone I have crossed a next chapter milestone and thought I would share a brief update with friends and colleagues. I recently passed the one year mark since my retirement from a job, place and people that I loved. Serving as the CEO of HSS for 17 years was the professional privilege of a lifetime. I will always treasure those years. This past year has been one of adjustment, looking back fondly, and looking ahead with excitement. It has not been easy but then again no worthwhile journey is without twists, turns and bumps in the road. It’s been a busy year. A few highlights... Professional While working for 41 years in my chosen profession with the last 17 as CEO of the same organization is a long time, I was not ready to give up on making healthcare better, but now from a different seat. No longer as a CEO for one, but as an advisor (or ‘helper’ as I like to say) for many. For those that know my tendency for structure, I have an objective to guide me into this next phase….helping people, companies, and communities grow and be better. After that is working with people I like, having impact, and deriving satisfaction from helping with having that impact. I’m working formally with a handful of companies as a board member and a few as an advisor. I won’t belabor the details, you can see them if interested through my LinkedIn profile. They are all keeping me engaged, adequately busy, and hopefully adding value. Personal After running hard for so long, not as easy as it may seem to slow down and smell the roses. Having said this, it’s really great to be with family, see friends and make time for me, as priorities. I’ll be brief here but do want to share a few things: It’s nice to not have the stress that inevitably comes along with being CEO. While hard to get used to, it’s nice to sometimes have nothing to do. I guess this is where smelling the roses comes from. I have traveled a good bit over the last year. Love exercising more and walking a lot. Working at improving my golf game and learning to play the guitar. Spending more time with friends. Time with my partner in life and wife Mary Lee, my amazing daughter Rachel and great son-in-law Jim is the pinnacle of joy, this is top of the list. Big news. Rachel and Jim just moved to Huntersville, North Carolina. We will be spending ALOT of time there for sure and I suspect there will be more news to report on in the months ahead. Hope to stay in touch with you on our life journey. Best, Lou
