At Laroot, we embrace mindful eating as a core part of our commitment, guided by our three pillars: Discovery, Flavor, and Wellness. We draw inspiration from global culinary traditions and celebrate diverse practices that deepen our understanding of food. Let’s explore how these insights shape our philosophy and the way we enjoy nutritious, flavorful meals. ??? The Japanese Art of Ikigai In Japan, the concept of ikigai—finding purpose—extends to food. Meals are enjoyed slowly, focusing on fresh, seasonal ingredients that nourish both body and mind. ??? Ayurvedic Mindful Eating Ayurveda emphasizes eating according to your body type (dosha) and the seasons. Mindful eating practices involve savoring meals without distraction and being aware of hunger and fullness cues. At Laroot, we follow the principle of eating until you are 80% full, inspired by Confucian teachings. ??? Italian Slow Food Movement The Slow Food movement emphasizes the enjoyment of meals made from local, high-quality ingredients, which aligns with our sourcing practices at Laroot. This approach encourages appreciation of culinary traditions. ??? TCM Principles of Eating In Traditional Chinese Medicine, food is seen as medicine. Mindful eating involves balancing yin and yang through seasonal foods and warm meals, which can enhance digestion and energy. ??? Indian Thali Tradition A thali is a traditional Indian meal served on a platter, featuring a variety of dishes that promote portion control and sensory engagement. ??? Ethiopian Eating with Injera In Ethiopian culture, meals are eaten with injera, a sourdough flatbread. Diners use their hands to scoop up stews, fostering community and connection. ??? Mediterranean Grazing In Mediterranean cultures, meals are often served as small dishes, encouraging sharing and slower eating. This promotes mindfulness and allows for the enjoyment of diverse flavors. Mindful eating fosters a deeper connection to food and its experiences. By embracing principles from diverse culinary traditions, we encourage a more intentional approach to meals. Together, let’s enhance our enjoyment of nutritious, flavorful food! At Laroot, your well-being and nourishment are at the heart of everything we do. We believe in Food as Medicine—the idea that what you eat can directly affect your body’s ability to heal, restore energy, and maintain balance. The right nutrients, herbs, and ingredients do more than fill you up; they actively support your health. By choosing elements that align with your body, you can accelerate healing, boost your immune system, and restore vitality. And this approach is exactly what guides our selection when crafting dishes—with your well-being at the forefront. With all this in mind, we’ve created The Restore Package—a curated selection designed to support your recovery after surgery* or any procedure. *Please note: This package is not recommended for those recovering from stomach or digestive surgeries. After any procedure, returning home should be a time for rest, not meal planning. We understand that navigating food choices can be overwhelming during this sensitive time. That’s where we come in—our goal is to simplify your journey so you can focus on rejuvenating without the stress of what to eat. The Restore Package allows you to focus on recovery while we handle your nourishment. Crafted with organic, gluten-free, and locally sourced ingredients, our meals, broths, and snacks are tailored to your needs. What’s Included: ??? 3 Breakfasts: Yogurt parfaits (cow’s or coconut milk) with farm-fresh fruit and house-made nut granola, plus chia pudding with turmeric, coconut milk, and fresh fruit—a balanced start to your day. ??? 3 Lunches & 3 Dinners: A variety of delicious, restorative meals from the week’s a la carte menu, crafted to nourish and keep you energized throughout the day. ??? 3 Bone Broths, Snacks, and Tisane: Collagen-rich broths (Roasted Chicken, Oxtail, and Daikon) for gut health and muscle repair. Nourishing Conversations with Maya Feller MS, RD,CDN ??????? In case you missed it, we had an amazing conversation with Maya Feller on Instagram Live and want to share some highlights! ?? How It All Began for Laroot Natasha: “Laroot started as a meal delivery service honoring our roots and cultural connections. The name reflects our mission to cherish diverse culinary traditions, avoiding fads and fusion for authentic experiences that enrich lives through food.” ?? How Laroot Met Maya Natasha: “I subscribed to Goop and discovered Maya Feller's book, Eating from Our Roots. The cover spoke to me, and I thought, ‘Who is this person?’ She echoed my thoughts, but as a world-renowned nutritionist. I reached out, saying, ‘You’re legitimizing everything I believe in.’ Maya has guided our vision at Laroot.” Maya: “When I got Natasha’s message, I was thrilled. Laroot’s focus on global flavors and nourishment resonated deeply. My first delivery came in beautiful glassware with a handwritten note, making me feel special. This thoughtful presentation is how all customers are treated!” ?? Exploring Our Synergies Natasha: “Maya’s podcast is inspiring! I loved an episode on supplements—it affirmed my belief that we can get what we need from food, and that’s exactly what we’re doing at Laroot.” Maya: “When we sat in my backyard this summer, I realized our synergy comes from our shared experiences and our approach to nourishment. The care you put into your meals resonates with me—it’s about creating food that feels like a hug.” Natasha: “At Laroot, we aimed to create a foodie company focused on deliciousness and joy. If a dish didn’t meet that standard, we wouldn’t serve it. While wellness is essential, flavor comes first. Chef Makai excels at making our dishes cozy and beautiful.” Chef Makai: “If we could add another pillar, it would be community. The synergy in Maya’s backyard was about good people wanting to eat well and make a positive impact. Food is a bridge we all share.” ?? Is There a Collaboration Ahead… Maya: “We’re cooking up something special together—a collaboration that’s going to be delicious, nourishing, and respectful of our cultural roots!” Natasha: “This is just the beginning! Expect something gentle and empathetic to the lifestyles we all live.” ?? Why Laroot Is a Meal Delivery Service (Not a Restaurant) Natasha: “When asked why we chose a meal delivery service, we realized it’s about empathy for New Yorkers' busy lifestyles. Dining out requires time and energy—something we’re short on in this city. Laroot aims to fit seamlessly into people's lives. Our philosophy is simple: food for those who care for others. We take the decision-making off your plate, bringing nutritious meals to your home, so you can enjoy them whenever it suits you—whether it’s 1 p.m. or 3 p.m.” For the complete discussion, check out our blog post: https://lnkd.in/gcShJiEB

Ever since I completed my training at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition’s Health Coaching program in 2019, I’ve been using the concept of “Primary and Secondary Foods” to keep balance in my life (work in progress). *Primary Foods* are the things that nourish us beyond just eating—like our spirituality, relationships, finances, education and passions. *Secondary Foods* are the actual food we eat. I’ve found that neglecting either of these areas can significantly impact my overall health, mood, and confidence. When I eat clean, I feel great. When I spend time dancing with friends, I feel recharged. Balancing these elements seems simple in theory, right? However, as life becomes more demanding and the quality of food in the US declines, I found myself having to dedicate a disproportionate amount of time and energy ensuring quality secondary nourishment. As a health and wellness enthusiast, I found this quest intriguing, but can also admit that it can become obsessive, demoralizing, frustrating, and time-consuming at times. In aligning my interests, I started working for Laroot World and wanted to share this valuable resource with my New York community. I’ve observed that many of us are striving to optimize our health and time, and I truly believe this resource can provide high-quality secondary food nourishment... In turn, allow us to focus more on the fun stuff — Primary Foods like hobbies, goals, passions, and relationships. If you're hungry, you can check Laroot World out here: https://larootworld.com/ I’d be happy to help you upgrade to all-organic, chef-made meals, delivered in eco-friendly glass containers right to your doorstep.

What's more exciting... our new dish drop: The Cabana Pasta ?? ?? or our Thank You Gift? ?? We first encountered this pasta in the Casa-Cabana book, where Martina Mondadori, founder of Cabana, shared her family's famous pasta recipe. Our Culinary Maestro, Makai, recreated this recipe the Laroot way, making it gluten-free, for a friends & family event we hosted with Cabana in May. The dish was a huge success, with Martina herself calling it the best iteration she's tried. This led us to include it on our menu for you, our friends, to enjoy! As you know, we love to spoil our foodies, so together with our partners, we've crafted a Fall Gift Set just for you! Each gift in the set was carefully chosen to share our appreciation for you - enjoy Cabana's chic finds, elevate your wellness with Erika Bloom Wellness, glow with Macrene Alexiades and MACRENE Actives, take a journey to Argentina with Bemberg Estate Wines, and, of course, receive something extra from us too! When Laroot Met Macrene… ?????? On June 24th, Laroot World partnered with Dr. Macrene Alexiades, NYC’s leading dermatologist, to celebrate her eponymous organic skincare line, MACRENE actives. Our menu was crafted to honor Dr. Macrene’s Greek heritage and reflect the values of MACRENE actives, aligning with our pillars of flavor, discovery, and holistic wellness. Known for her innovative approach to skincare, Dr. Macrene focuses on plant-based, toxin-free ingredients to enhance natural beauty. The event featured a blend of heritage dishes, including our Ikarian Lunch, a Blue Zone-inspired eggplant dish, and insightful discussions about skincare and holistic beauty. Dr. Macrene introduced our founder, Natasha, who spoke about the synergy between Laroot and MACRENE actives. The day included skincare insights, facials, flavorful Laroot food, and a deeper look into both brands! “By understanding the intersection of food, beauty, and skin health, we can choose a diet that not only enhances the appearance of the skin but also nourishes it from within, promoting long-term health and vitality.” Dr. Macrene Alexiades Here’s what Dr. Macrene has to say about Laroot and beauty: ?????Favorite Laroot Dish? As a Greek, I am drawn to Mediterranean dishes that match my epigenetics. My favorite Laroot dish is the Messe Salad. The combination of leafy greens, spicy tahini sauce, and protein-rich falafel makes for a perfect meal. ?????Favorite Greek meal? The Ikarian lunch is very special, as it incorporates eggplant and halloumi. The latter is a very low-lactose cheese, allowing those of us who are lactose intolerant to enjoy it. Reminiscent of the Greek dish briam that my mother made for me growing up, it features fresh tomatoes, peppers, garlic, Kalamata olives, and raw olive oil. ?????Thoughts on food as medicine and beauty? As a dermatologist, I view food through the lens of both beauty and medicine, recognizing its impact on skin health. The skin, the body's largest organ, reflects both external beauty and internal well-being. Nutrient-rich foods, such as colorful fruits and vegetables, provide essential vitamins and antioxidants that promote skin health, combat oxidative stress, and support collagen production. By understanding the intersection of food, beauty, and skin health, we can choose a diet that not only enhances the appearance of the skin but also nourishes it from within, promoting long-term health and vitality. ?????Favorite places to eat in NYC? For fun Greek partying and fast food, I love Souvlaki GR. For authentic Greek cuisine, I enjoy Georges and the Mykonian. Or, best of all, you can come to my home and enjoy Greek cooking almost every night of the week by my daughter Sophia. As we approach Labor Day, we’re proud to spotlight one of our team members - Naria Diaz Chi, one of our valued Medical Advisors at Laroot World. Laroot World holistic approach to meal planning comprises the millennia of nutritional wisdom held by?Traditional Chinese Medicine. Our TCM advisor, Naria Diaz Chi, a diplomate in acupuncture and Chinese?herbal medicine who is accredited by the National Commission on Certification for Acupuncture and?Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), guides our founder and culinary director in developing recipes that?contain health-enhancing balances of flavors, colors, temperatures, and seasonal produce Meet Naria Diaz Chi: ?? How has growing up in Korea influenced your approach to health and wellness? Growing up in Korea, my lifestyle and diet naturally aligned with health principles. During my graduate studies in oriental medicine, I realized many dishes I ate were forms of seasonal food therapy. This deepened my appreciation for the concept that food is medicine. ?? How does Taoist philosophy view health and the role of food? Taoist philosophy sees health as a state of balance, where food selection is crucial. A healthy body requires equilibrium between Yin and Yang and the five elements—wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. These elements, linked to specific colors and tastes, influence our health. ?? How do the five basic elements and their corresponding flavors and colors impact health? Each element—fire, wood, water, metal, and earth—corresponds to a flavor: bitter, sour, salty, spicy, and sweet. These flavors are also linked to colors: blue/green, red, yellow, white, and black. Foods matching these elements can help repair and support organs associated with each flavor. ?? How do you incorporate TCM principles into dietary recommendations? In TCM, food has medicinal properties. Each food has specific energies, temperatures, and properties. For example, for a dry cough, I might recommend cooling vegetables like daikon or pears. These foods bring coolness to the lungs, helping to moisten and clear heat, resolving the cough. ?? What is an example of a therapeutic dish in TCM? A dish like bison with lotus roots, black sesame paste, and dandelion greens illustrates this. Bison builds blood, lotus root calms the spirit, and dandelion greens move liver energy, improving mood. Seasoning with garlic, red pepper flakes, and ginger enhances these benefits, supporting emotional and mental well-being. ?? How does Laroot align with TCM principles? Laroot provides balanced meals that incorporate the Yin-Yang structures of food, the five elements, and a harmony of temperatures. Our service offers essential ingredients and spices that enhance digestion and nutrient absorption, leading to improved health and a deeper connection to TCM principles. If you want to learn more about TCM, check out our newsletter!
