?? Congratulations to our BY Construction Graduates! ????? A celebration was recently held for the 15 dedicated students who graduated from La Plaza’s Latino Opportunity Center BY Construction program in partnership with the Indiana Construction Roundtable Foundation. Over the past 12 weeks, these graduates completed 84 hours of instructional classes, gaining hands-on skills in basic safety, construction math, tools, drawings, rigging, and communication. ?? This year's program introduced exciting new opportunities: ? A paid Trainee Experience with Home Repairs for Good, where students helped repair two houses. ? A two-week contextualized English class focused on construction vocabulary. We’re so proud of our graduates who also earned their OSHA 10 and NCCER Core certifications. ??♂???♀? KeyBank not only provides essential funding for La Plaza but goes above and beyond by volunteering their time and expertise. KeyBank team members actively participate in career and leadership panels, offering invaluable guidance to our youth. Thanks to KeyBank, La Plaza has been able to offer access to community members to special community events like the NBA All-Star game and Pacers basketball games! This year, La Plaza proudly awarded the KeyBank scholarship to Paola, a dedicated volunteer with La Plaza. Paola has served as a camp counselor in our Leadership Institute for Latino Youth 5-week summer camp and remains an active community member. She’s currently a junior at IU Bloomington, working towards her degree in Psychology. Each year, La Plaza awards up to eight $2,000 scholarships—renewable for four years (totaling $8,000)—to support Hispanic/Latin@/e students on their college journey. Requirements: ? ?? We’re thrilled to share the success of our very first La Plaza Tu Futuro event! Recently, 24 of our Tu Futuro students explored careers in healthcare and enjoyed an exciting trip to Lark Ranch Pumpkin Patch in Greenfield. The day kicked off with an inspiring career and leadership panel featuring Dr. Dianna Reynoso, a pediatric doctor and Medical Director of Social Determinants of Health at Eskenazi Health; Alycia Felix, Manager of Virtual Health at Franciscan Health; and Aldo Rosales, a former La Plaza Tu Futuro student and current Rehab Tech at IU Health. They shared insights on their career journeys, daily responsibilities, and tips for success in the healthcare field. ?? Key takeaways? Start exploring career interests in high school, get involved in student groups and volunteering, network, use available resources, and always strive for excellence. After the panel, students had a fantastic time at the pumpkin patch, riding mechanical rides, making memories, and building connections! ??
