The rate at which healthcare costs are increasing is unsustainable for employers, but when we hear from benefits leaders grappling with how to manage this, I’m heartened that most agree on one thing: shifting costs to employees is not an option. This new data from WTW backs that up — only 34% of employers expect to push cost increases onto employees. Most of them will be looking to reduce healthcare spending in other ways — like steering people to the highest-quality options to avoid costly complications and reducing utilization of expensive services like ER visits. WTW recently released its 2024 Best Practices in Healthcare Survey, which polled 417 employers representing 6 million workers.
