Do you know what the “Bermuda Triangle” is? And no, we’re not referring to that spooky spot in the ocean where planes and ships have gone mysteriously missing. The Bermuda Triangle in recovery represents the trio of festive winter holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, which can prove to be particularly challenging for those in recovery due to family stress, increased alcohol consumption, or lack of time for self-care. As we move into this season, we encourage companies to consider their sober employees when party-planning. A few ideas to make your holiday party more sober-friendly: ??Include NA drinks or mocktails: Make your holiday party more inclusive with the addition of a few mocktails or NA options for those opting for a booze-free holiday or are sober. ??♀?Consider alternative holiday gatherings: While most parties typically revolve around food and drink, consider an activity such as a yoga class to destress from holiday pressure, a cooking class, ice skating, or a wreath-making workshop. ??♀? Offer a plus-one: Allowing people to bring a friend, family member or significant other can provide sober employees with a sense of security knowing they’ll have a safe person who can provide them support during the event. For those in recovery, we’ve put together a how-to on how to successfully navigate Thanksgiving.
