Lansing Regional SmartZone

Mowr Technologies was, not so long ago, a budding idea shared by Douglas Salazar and Gray Taylor as they analyzed the lawn care needs in mid-Michigan. The partners wanted to develop an app that would serve as the connection point between lawn care service providers and customers searching for lawn care service, but needed help on the tech, financial, and business operation side. Through the Lansing Economic Area Partnership | LEAP and the Lansing Regional SmartZone, mowr tapped into small business support services that helped them transform their idea into action as they created their app. Mowr was also a part of LEAP's Ascend business acceleration program for Hispanic/Latino business owners, giving them access to additional support and resources to pursue their business goals. Now with the Mowr app in app stores, this local small business is on track to double revenue from the previous year, and make yard maintenance easier for Lansing area residents. This is incredibly exciting news for Lansing Regional SmartZone client company Stunio on their expansion of the team! Stunio is a local company started by Michigan State University graduate Adam Green. The #SmartZone has supported this team in their growth journey alongside our partners at Michigan State University – Burgess Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, MSU Research Foundation, Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Lansing Economic Area Partnership | LEAP! It takes a village to grow a startup and we are excited to see them continue to grow and succeed!

LRSZ is a launchpad for ideas across many industries. For that to be possible, our team connects with innovators who are pushing the boundaries in their specialty. Earlier this month, LRSZ Director Angel Miller attended the MSU Research Foundation's Energy Summit 2024 to hear from thought leaders — including ADASTEC Corp., an LRSZ client — around the future of energy, and how the Lansing Region is leading the nation in electric mobility. Headquartered in Lansing at the TIC, ADASTEC develops advanced, automated driving software used in commercial vehicles and buses. As a panelist, ADASTEC Product Management Director Cemre Kavvasoglu shared his expertise on the future of energy innovation, roadway environments, and safety. 2023-24 was a special year of growth and innovation at the Lansing Regional SmartZone.
