The last month has been chaotic and hard for everyone, seemingly by design, including those of us working to provide affordable housing.?Federal funding providing services, rental assistance and housing capital is unavailable or uncertain. Trade orders are causing uncertainty in the market. We know that homelessness costs more than housing. We know affordable housing improves communities, provides better student achievement, and improves the tax base. We know that simply building units without service funding and rental assistance will not end homelessness or create stable housing opportunities. We know that housing insecurity disproportionately affects underrepresented groups – people of color, LGBTQIA+, children, families – the groups targeted through the rollback of various protections and DEI efforts. Our partners in this space have shown this data over and over. And they have demonstrated their ability to get results. Just last month, Hennepin County announced the effective end to veteran homelessness. We are making a difference. We are not stopping. In the words of Rev. Jessie Jackson, “We must go forward with hope and not backward by fear and division.” Not with naivety, but with our eyes wide open to the threats and impact. Not with panic, but with a calm determination. Not with rhetoric, but with the documented impacts and focused advocacy. We will continue to preserve and increase the amount of quality affordable housing in our community as an integral part of our clients’ affordable housing development goals. We will stand with you. Landon Group. Wisconsin. Affordable Housing. It was the trifecta this week at the annual housing conference with Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA). Getting it done across state lines!

Caught with her mouth full! Last week, Landon Group's Sarah Larson presented at the U of M grad school class "Private Sector Development" with Riverton Community Housing ED, Mary Novak. Afterwards, there was great conversation at Afro Deli & Grill. We love talking affordable housing with passionate people!

Three years ago, Landon Group met a group of dedicated staff and volunteers from Minnesota Indian Women's Resource Center (MIWRC). They were committed to rehab their building to best serve their committee and fulfill their mission to empower native women and families to exercise their cultural values with integrity, and to achieve sustainable lifeways, while advocating for justice and equity. Last week, we assisted in the closing on the financing. The rehab has begun! It's been a journey. But the best projects always are. Honored to be invited to celebrate the completion of Calvary Apartments with the residents at their annual luncheon. For the last year, these folks have put up with a lot of construction in and around their units. The end result was a stalized building serving senior households at 30% ami and below. Last week we celebrated the completion of the Horizon Heights Townhomes rehabilitation in Burnsville with Christopher M. Cooper & Associates. Landon Group has been honored to be part of this project - making Horizon Heights once again a beautiful place for 25 families to call home. Of course tremendous gratitude goes out to all the project partners - Dakota County, Minnesota Housing, City of Burnsville, Kaas Wilson, Flannery Construction, MBG PROPERTY MANAGEMENT, INC., Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A., and Commercial Partners Title, LLC.
