Introducing transit-oriented development (TOD) in slow-growth areas requires fresh thinking and adaptable strategies. The Boro in Tysons, VA is a leading example of a successful mixed-use TOD that prioritizes quality public spaces. The signature urban park with central lawn, amphitheater steps, and retail kiosk create an active public realm that sets the stage for community gatherings beyond the 9-5 workday. LandDesign's Lisa Hwang co-authored this academic article, available now in the November issue of Landscape Journal. The article explores the importance of integrating research into the design process to enhance the landscape architecture profession. LandDesign’s Stephanie Roa participated in the round table discussions organized by the Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) that inspired the article. Both Lisa and Stephanie have been deeply involved with LAF and continue to make significant contributions to our field, both through their work at LandDesign and beyond. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/g8vaXggR. The academic article is available for free thanks to the authors, firms, and LAF who covered the cost to make it open access.

At this year's American Society of Landscape Architects Conference, LandDesign was recognized as the 2024 Firm Award recipient. Our President, Rhett Crocker, said it best: “[In the past five generations of LandDesign], we’re very proud that we’ve built on the momentum of each one...just trying to make the firm better every day. From the early beginnings of designing landscape plans for the Outer Banks in North Carolina, to having five offices across the country and doing work across the globe, we’ve come a long way.” We are humbled by this recognition, and we look forward to continuing our momentum of creating places that matter. #ASLA Read more about the ASLA Firm Award here: https://lnkd.in/eKP-4vgw
