A CDC study found that the suicide rate for construction workers is the second highest among all industries. That’s why, during September’s National Suicide Prevention Month, our industry dedicates a week to raising awareness about the unique challenges construction workers face and how to prevent suicides. This week, the Landau Team actively participated in Construction Suicide Prevention Week. We attended the seminar “Building a Strong Foundation Under the Hard Hat,” distributed toolbox talks at our jobsites, and featured the Yinz Good? banner, a Master Builders' Association of Western Pennsylvania, Inc. initiative providing mental health resources for construction workers. As the summer comes to an end, we’re celebrating the awesome?contributions of our summer intern, Luke Vittone, as he slides back into the school year.?Luke, a Business Management and Economics major from Grove City College, spent his summer diving into the financial side of project management while gaining hands-on experience onsite. Here are some of Luke’s key takeaways from his time with Team Landau: Biggest Surprise: The fast-paced nature of construction and the many moving parts that keep a project running smoothly, both on and off the job site. Valuable Skills: Applying technical skills to the financial aspect of project to avoid making big mistakes.? Wish List: I wish I had more time to explore other aspects of running a project. Landau recently partnered with Grove City College to renovate their Physical Learning Center, upgrading the main entrance and lobby space over the summer. The project involved replacing 10 storefront doors to create a vestibule with two new rows of doors, installing new access controls and automatic operators, and adding an ADA-compliant entrance and ramp. We also upgraded the lighting and restored the limestone—all completed during the summer break to minimize disruption. The campus refreshed the entrance with?new flooring, tying together the project with Grove City College’s signature “G” to welcome students and visitors. Landau is pleased to share the recent completion of our renovation project on the 3rd floor of WVU Medicine Fairmont Medical Center! This 30,000 SF transformation now includes 42 new acute patient care rooms, nurse stations, and support spaces. Designed by HED Architects, the project also upgraded mechanical systems, lighting, ceilings, and added energy-efficient windows. The work was carefully phased to ensure continuous hospital operations and patient care. Great job to the entire project team for their dedication and hard work!
