Exciting news! Land Bank Twin Cities (LBTC) is thrilled to announce the successful completion of an innovative project that creates perpetually affordable retail space in North Minneapolis. In a groundbreaking collaboration, LBTC acquired the properties in 2021 and partnered with Partnership in Property Commercial Land Trust (PIPCLT) and Northside Investment Cooperative Enterprise Minnesota (NICEMN) to facilitate community ownership of two retail buildings at 3453 and 3501 Penn Avenue North. This milestone represents over three years of dedicated work since our initial acquisition, demonstrating the significant time, patience, and commitment required to transform these properties into sustainable community-owned commercial spaces. Land Bank Twin Cities and a local nonprofit organization recently partnered to acquire 15 acres of land to be developed into an 11-acre park, and a new youth development & tennis center. Working closely with environmental experts, the project team will enhance the biodiversity of the land beginning with protecting bees and bats. In two to three years, when development is complete, the site will have been transformed from an abandoned construction dump into a vibrant community asset. We look forward to sharing our progress with you as we move forward!
