???? Day 1 of the LCSA Educator Externship: From Farm to Print! ???? Today, Lancaster County educators kicked off the Lancaster County STEM Alliance Educator Externship with an immersive experience at Oregon Dairy! Each teacher was given a unique task to develop content that will be published in Lancaster Farming. After their morning on the farm, they headed to the Lancaster Farming office to work alongside editors, crafting stories about their experience. They even partnered with ad designers to create ads that will be featured in the publication! The goal of this externship is clear: to get teachers into local businesses, learning directly from industry professionals. By connecting the skills and knowledge they gain here with their classroom teaching, they’ll help students see how what they learn in school applies to real-world careers. On my way home from an amazing time at the #Workforce2030Summit with Lancaster County STEM Alliance and Dr. Lauren Beal. 3 things I’m taking away… ?? When you are doing work you truly love, it’s infectious. ?? For me, that’s facilitating. Someone shared that they could tell I was born to do this work and how much I’m living in my sweet spot. It was kind to hear, but it reflected something I often observe from my role as a facilitator. When I enter a room with people who deeply care about the work they do, the energy is contagious. It allows me to step back and create the container for their excitement to fill the room. This conference included a mix of educators and business leaders who you could tell deeply cared about building out career exploration and readiness opportunities for youth. The first step of a great gathering is ensuring the right people are in the room. ?? Leaders set the tone for a gathering ?? As much as the crowds energy fills the space, the leaders and organizing team are the ones who set the conditions for folks to open up and share vulnerably. Working with the conference organizers for this event was so encouraging - they were incredibly trusting of the process and because of that, created a summit that multiple attendees shared as “the best event I’ve ever attended.” But here’s the thing - they didn’t need to micromanage the experience, they trusted the wisdom of the crowd to do the work. I’ve worked with leaders on the other end of the spectrum who try to control every little detail and they suffocate the experience for attendees. Before anyone even steps into the room, the possibility for engagement and contribution has been limited for attendees. ?? Reveal the collective wisdom emerging ?? This event included a few processes where you could visually see the progress of ideas emerging. Open Space in particular is fantastic for this when a blank wall suddenly fills with topics sourced from the crowd. This was the process that people most appreciated. The other tool that helped visualize the connections being made was our Live Print Mosaic which revealed photos of past and future collaborations. It’s a simple yet powerful way to reveal the magic that emerges. #facilitation #event
