Today FERC granted York Energy Storage a preliminary permit to study the construction of a pumped storage facility at Cuffs Run along the Susquehanna River in York County. “The decision today by FERC to grant York Energy Storage a preliminary permit to study a pumped storage project at Cuffs Run is disappointing and disregards the valid concerns and strong objections raised by so many community members, businesses, and organizations,” said Fritz Schroeder, Lancaster Conservancy’s President and CEO. “We will continue to organize and oppose this project that would have a profoundly negative impact on our community, the Susquehanna River, and the natural landscape we have fought so hard to protect. This is not the future we want to leave the next generation – trading our forested river hills for concrete and destruction.” Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gFyqPeuZ

Providing wild and forested lands and clean waterways for our community. Forever.
关于我们
The Lancaster Conservancy has been working for over 50 years to provide wild and forested lands and clean waterways for our community. The Conservancy has protected over 10,000 acres of land in nearly 50 nature preserves with over 40 miles of hiking trails. These nature preserves are open to the public free of charge, 365 days a year, and provide opportunities for education and passive recreation like hiking, fishing, hunting, and swimming.

The Conservancy is excited to share that we are adding ?? 10 acres ?? of natural lands to two existing Lancaster County nature preserves – Steinman Run and Pequea – ensuring more of our important woodlands are protected forever! Conserving contiguous natural lands to create corridors of habitat for wildlife and human recreation is one of Lancaster Conservancy’s highest land protection priorities. Often that process happens one small parcel of land at a time. Learn more about these new additions: https://lnkd.in/eiDxvUPW

Get to know our GIS Technician Corey! “GIS” stands for "geographic information system," which is a special type of database platform for managing geographic data. In the simplest of terms, Corey is our map guy. "Our natural lands are under a lot of pressure from land development, pollution, climate change, and the like. Many of my best memories are from the life experiences I’ve had hiking, hunting, and exploring in our state and national parks, the Conservancy’s preserves, and growing up on my family’s farm in Northeast Ohio. Now that I’m a dad of two little girls, it has become important to me to do what I can to help ensure they have access to these same great places and experiences," Corey says. We are so grateful for Phil and Steve's generosity, leadership, and ongoing support of the Conservancy and our community!
“When we acquire and set aside land for future generations of humans to use for recreation, and animals and plants are protected from human destruction, this kind of legacy gift impacts generation after generation.” Phil Wenger and Steve Dinnocenti have been active members of the Lancaster community for decades.?As they look back on their years of successful business ventures, impactful volunteering contributions, and relentless advocacy for causes they care about—like LGBTQ+ rights, elevating local artists, and caring for the environment—they decided to create a legacy plan, leaving gifts to the I Love Lancaster Fund and the Lancaster Conservancy.? ? “After we are gone, we want to ensure that issues we are passionate about continue to receive support,” Phil and Steve said.? ? By establishing a legacy gift through the Lancaster Community Foundation, Phil and Steve are creating an intentional plan today that will impact causes they care about in the future. Planned giving of this nature allows passionate people like Phil and Steve to leave a lasting impact on their community.? ? “The beauty of legacy funds is they grow over time, creating impact long after our bodies and the memories of our lives have been forgotten.?They are the ultimate ‘giving forward’ to future generations,” Phil and Steve said.? ? Their greatest priority is protecting Lancaster’s forests and land, a cause they have both dedicated significant efforts to throughout their lives. By taking time today, Phil and Steve will contribute meaningfully to the needs and opportunities Lancaster faces tomorrow.? ? “The best thing we can do as donors, is leave something behind for the future as gratitude for the life and success Lancaster has given us,” Phil and Steve said. “Everyone wants to leave a positive mark after we are gone.?What better way to extend the impact of our work, than to leave a fund that grows in perpetuity and lasts forever?” Learn more about how you can be part of changing the next 100 years through giving: https://lnkd.in/ewRkn-iW
