Our staff rolled up their sleeves and dug into some pies! To kick off the Thanksgiving holiday, we hosted the ultimate pie-eating contest for a little friendly competition. Prizes were awarded for the two fastest eaters, and the winners were Sam and Josh! Thank you for bringing your A-games and making this a celebration to remember!

Each year, millions of people experience difficulties with behavioral health. If these problems persist, they can affect relationships, performance at work or school or even the ability to complete everyday tasks and functions. If you or a loved one is struggling and in need of behavioral health services, Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital will be opening in July 2018 to provide treatment, resources and support. Through a partnership between Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health and Universal Health Services, we will provide inpatient and outpatient services for patients living with mental illness.

The Trauma-Informed Care Committee theme for November is “Empowerment." What does empowerment look like to you? Is it working under an influential leader who motivates you to reach your fullest potential? Sharing words of encouragement or constructive criticism with your teammates? Advocating for yourself? Empowerment can increase confidence, create greater autonomy, and strengthen personal development. This month’s coffee and tea bar hosted by our Care Team gave employees an opportunity to ponder what empowerment means to them. We want to thank our staff for enabling and encouraging each other to put their best foot forward!

Here are some additional stress-relief tips shared by our staff. Whether it’s taking a cat nap, listening to your favorite music, or enjoying a long walk, finding ways to reset your mind and body is essential for fully de-stressing. What are your go-to strategies for managing stress? Here’s some inspiration from our team! Garrett (left), Patient Advocate – “Anything that takes my mind off of work is good, but fly-fishing is my preferred stress management.” Storm (right), Unit Coordinator – “I sleep, listen to podcasts, and I play video games.” #StressAwareness

November 6 was Stress Awareness Day, and some of our staff shared ways they manage their stress and disconnect from a long day’s work. Don’t forget to check in with yourself and your loved ones. Drop the shoulders, unclench your jaws, and take a few deep breaths; we hold stress in our bodies in unconscious ways! Ladon, Receptionist – “I like to take a walk or watch a favorite show on Lifetime” Chris, Receptionist – “I like to listen to podcasts to unwind and recharge, from true crime to celebrity gossip, legal breakdowns, and international relations. I will listen to anything with an enjoyable voice and professional production quality. Whether I am driving, eating, on a break, or turning in for the night.”

Our Community Relations Representative, Greg, recently attended a resource fair in Blair County, hosted by Blair Health Choices. Both providers and members of the community came out to connect with agency representatives and learn about treatment options that are available to them and their families.
