Screening Wednesday, November 20 at 7:00 PM: The Cemetery of Cinema (Au cimetière de la pellicule) Q&A with Director Thierno Souleymane Diallo The first French language film made in Africa, Mouramani, was directed by Mamadóu Touré in Guinea in 1953. However, is the film still in existence? Thierno Souleymane Diallo is determined to find out, looking for anyone who has seen it, or knows where a print of it may be. Along the way, he meets archivists, former workers at now crumbling outdoor movie palaces and film professionals who may have seen it. Diallo, in addition to being an investigator, is also a satirist extraordinaire, tackling the legacy of colonialism on the streets of Paris with a sly wink. It is also a personal film, in which Diallo speaks with his mother about her expectations and his chosen profession. A major new documentary, coming off a 2023 festival run at Berlinale, CPH:Dox, Hot Docs, IDFA and DocLisboa. Get your tickets ?? https://lnkd.in/ejd6Gthd

New York premiere of new restoration! Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 4:00 PM & 7:30 PM In 1943, the Paris-based resistance fighters “Manouchian Group” were rounded up and executed. In 1986, filmmaker Mosco Boucault interviews other resistance fighters, trying to uncover the secret history of their betrayal. Narrated by Simone Signoret, the film reveals horrible, sad truths of collaboration. Earlier this year, Mizzak Manouchian was belatedly honored by France, and reinterred, with his wife, at the Panthéon. ??? https://lnkd.in/evfw2RNQ
