Thanks to the Chicago Build Expo for inviting us to speak on the “Implementing Social Value in Construction” panel last week! ?? ?? Two of our principals — Kelly Powers Baria of Powers & Sons Construction and Ernest Brown of Brown & Momen — spoke about Lakeside Alliance’s mission to change the paradigm in construction through the historic #ObamaPresidentialCenter project. They: ?? Highlighted that intentionality drives results when it comes to achieving ambitious diversity, equity and inclusion goals ?? Shared specific strategies to open windows of opportunity on this project and beyond, including the Resource Center, Learning with Lakeside Alliance programming and technical support for #subcontractors ?? For our latest #SubcontractorSpotlight, Lakeside Alliance spoke with Cleveland Marble Mosaic Company project manager Edward Drobnick, PE about the stonework on site, his greatest hope for the outcome of the #ObamaPresidentialCenter and more ?? Q: Tell us about the stonework process and your work on the Obama Presidential Center. A: Cleveland Marble’s job is to engineer, furnish and install the stone support system and exterior stone cladding on the Museum Building, Forum and Library, in addition to the furnish and install of granite site pavers and granite clad site walls…Our team has to be prepared to prioritize tasks each day on these projects to maintain flow for our installation crews. Q: What sets your business apart?? A: What really sets Cleveland Marble apart is our people. It starts with the great leadership and vision of the owner Bob Zavagno Jr, which permeates throughout the whole organization. We are blessed with loyal, bright, and hardworking superintendents and highly skilled, trained and safety-minded tradesmen who take a great deal of pride in their work. My crew really is unbelievable. They get the job done the right way and safely. We do not take any shortcuts. Q: What excites you most about being a part of this historic undertaking? A: In a nutshell, everything excited me about this project. For one, having the privilege to work for Mr. and Mrs. Obama on the Center is the pinnacle of my career at Cleveland Marble. Also, being able to work with Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects is great because of their use and understanding of natural stone…I am proud to be leading a team that is part of something so special that, once completed, can be enjoyed by all. #ConstructionUpdates ?? As the leaves begin to change, Lakeside Alliance continues to reach exciting construction milestones at the historic #ObamaPresidentialCenter. Here are the latest updates from the site: ? Limestone installation on the exterior of the building has proceeded past the articulation point at Level 4 ? Major mechanical units that serve the Museum have been placed ? Overhead work for the Auditorium is proceeding ? Placement of terrazzo concrete topping slabs at the Garden Level of the Forum has commenced ? Concrete site walls and preparation for landscaping and sidewalks continues on the east side of the site, working towards the north Thank you to all of the skilled tradespeople, subcontractors and members of #TeamOPC who continue to deliver exceptional work in Jackson Park day-in and day-out. #LakesideAlliance #ChicagoConstruction
