Have you noticed the addition of Image Descriptions (ID) on the bottom of our posts this past month or so? Some have asked why we have started to include them. Image descriptions are recommended as an accessibility step so that users with visual impairments and/or those using screen readers are not prevented from fully engaging in our posts. In the spirit of our core value of diversity this is a step we've taken to align with best practice. We have more steps to take in our communications moving forward as we learn and deploy these recommendations. According to Section508.gov "Accessible social media content is crucial for fostering inclusivity and ensuring equal participation for all individuals, regardless of ability." Many of our local resources here in NH also share content in similar ways. Here are some examples from UNH IOD, ABLE NH and the latest film from Dan Habib, The Ride Ahead. As you can see, there are varying degrees of detail and personality that can be added. A helpful resource for anyone wishing to work towards more accessibility in their posts, check out https://lnkd.in/eh9uKuYm #DiversityAndInclusion #Accessibility #InclusiveDesign #ScreenReaders #VisualImpairment #SocialMediaForAll #CommunityInclusion [ID: three images that showcase examples of previous posts and its corresponding image description. November is Men's Health Awareness Month with today being International Men's Day. One movement that was started to raise awareness in the month of November was started by The Movember Foundation and put a fun twist on this serious issues facing men's health including mental health and suicide prevention. Using the moustache as a catalyst, the idea is to bring about change and give men the opportunity and confidence to learn and talk about their physical and mental health and take action when needed. #MensHealth #Movember #InternationalMensDay #MentalHealthAwareness #MensWellness #MustacheMovement [ID: white background and graphic of blue ribbon overlayed with a black mustache.
