Grins as wide as their faces. Paws on top of paws. Butts wiggling in unison on a shared walk. Meet Zeus and his sister Medusa (or ‘Dusa’ for short).?Thanks to LTAR, these siblings (true siblings, not just adoptive siblings!) were reunited after a lengthy separation.?Did they recognize each other??There’s absolutely no doubt. Just look at those great photos. Makes you smile, right? Zeus and Dusa were taken in by LTAR at a very young age.?Zeus had been attacked by a wild animal, so needed to stay under LTAR’s care after Dusa went into rescue and was adopted.?Besides veterinary care to heal Zeus’s wounds from the wild animal attack, he needed to be declared free from rabies since there was no way to know if the attacking animal was rabid or not. That entailed an additional four months of observation and caretaking by an LTAR foster. Dusa was living ‘the good life’ during the time Zeus gradually healed. Finally, he, too, was vet-cleared to go to Northern Lakes Rescue, the same rescue that had taken in Dusa. Little did anyone know that Zeus was going to be taken in by the same family that had adopted Dusa. The only ones happier than LTAR volunteers about this amazing family reunion are Zeus and Dusa themselves.?Their tails haven’t stopped wagging since they were reunited.?Of course, their adoptive family is thrilled as well. ?Happy endings like this one keep LTAR volunteers moving forward, along with the support of all of you who are smiling after seeing Zeus and Dusa’s joy in being back together. For Give to the Max Day, we’re asking for your help to cover Zeus’s medical expenses and to continue supporting other animals like her who rely on us for survival. We work to improve the lives of animals on the Lake Traverse Reservation!
关于我们
The Lake Traverse Animal Rezcue’s mission is to improve the quality of life for animals on the Lake Traverse Reservation, which is located on the South Dakota/North Dakota/Minnesota borders. This includes rescuing abused, neglected and unwanted animals, providing emergency vet care, helping animals from the Sisseton City Pound, and transporting these animals to other rescue groups for re-homing. We also provide spay/neuter/vaccination services for animals that remain on the reservation. The majority of our animals go to rescue groups in the Twin Cities, but we also have rescue partners in SD, ND and Manitoba, Canada. They do not go to shelters, but instead go to foster home based rescue groups. For animals that will remain on the reservation, we provide free spay/neuter and vaccination clinics, provide educational resources to animal owners, and advocate for tribal laws that will better protect animals. Although the majority of our animals are dogs and cats, we’ve also rescued quite a few horses, some rabbits, mice, guinea pigs, a donkey and a ferret. The Lake Traverse Animal Rezcue is an all-volunteer based 501c3 non-profit rescue group, based in Sisseton, SD. We have both tribal members and non-tribal member volunteers. Since we don’t do adoptions ourselves, all of our income is generated through donations and fundraising. Our Federal tax ID number is EIN 27-4582954.

Today is National Cat Day! It's also $10 TNR Tuesday! The Lake Traverse Animal Rezcue will be awarded a $2,000 matching grant from?Community Cats Podcast, if we're able to raise $2,000 through our fundraising for this event! There is a huge cat overpopulation problem throughout the reservation and bordering communities. We have 60 cats currently on the waiting list for vetting. The longer it takes to get them vetted, the more cats there are! These are barn and community cats, that don't live in homes. The only way to control the population is to have them spayed or neutered. Cats are "ear tipped" so we can tell which ones have already been vetted. Donate today! 1. Today is National Dog Day! We are working to create a pet food pantry for our community. I just saw this article yesterday about the cost of dog ownership, and how especially young adults are giving up their dogs because they can't afford them. Now, add to that the fact that we're in a low income, high poverty area, and it explains why there are so many stray dogs, and dogs in need. We'd love to prevent some of the owner surrenders, and keep those dogs in their loving home. If you can help, you can order from our wish lists and have it sent directly to us: Amazon: https://lnkd.in/gKENWSMr... Chewy: https://lnkd.in/gmJKpPz3... Otherwise, we have donation options here: credit/debit or paypal: https://lnkd.in/dRJV58SA Venmo @laketraverseanimalrezcue code 3420 CashApp $LTAR1 Every little bit helps—even just liking and sharing our page or posts to reach a broader audience is so beneficial! The young German Shepherd didn’t know she only had 6 minutes left to live until her scheduled euthanasia was to be performed.?To this day, she doesn’t know that thanks to an LTAR volunteer, she now has a wonderful future in front of her. In fact, she was just transported to a Rescue Partner this past weekend. Both transport volunteers fell in love with her, sending text updates filled with praise for the lucky dog who is now named Dallas.?“Dallas is a beauty and a sweetheart. She is very obedient and loves humans. Loves to play.”; “She got to ride shotgun with one of the transport drivers. She went to rescue today.”; From the second leg transporter: “Who do I know (besides me - I wish) that needs a beautiful, sweet, loving, somewhat petite, GSD girl?!?! I met Dallas today, & she's SPECTACULAR!!! I'm in love & you will be too!!” was the text included with this photo on social media. There’s a very important reason this special girl is named Dallas.?The following is what her LTAR rescuer tells of the story: “She was almost euthanized because I was in Dallas, TX for a conference and no one had room. I flew in and was told “never mind the dog in the pound, it’s scheduled to be euthanized” I called the vet right away and asked if she was euthanized yet at 3:24 and they said no she’s not scheduled tell 3:30. That’s where she got her name Dallas. I drove right from the airport to her.” We’re talking from the airport in Fargo to Sisseton, about 100 miles. Add in the stress of the volunteer running through the airport to impatiently wait for her luggage in the baggage area, making her way out of the terminal to get to her car, then driving southbound as quickly as she dared, heart pounding in her rush to rescue a dog that she was determined would be allowed to live. That is true caring and dedication. And this is true joy. Look at this photo of Dallas. She may not know how fortunate she was on that fateful day when the volunteer called the vet’s office at 3:24. She doesn’t know that 3:30 arrived and the clock kept ticking and so did her heart, thanks to that phone call. But she does know that she is enthusiastic about life and that she is safe. And that’s what LTAR is all about.? Thank you for your continued support that helps us keep creating happy endings! Who do we know that is doing Reservation animal rescue or providing veterinary care primarily to reservation animals? A group of us is working to create a National Tribal Tails Animal Wellness Day, which will be August 21st. If you're interested in participating, email [email protected].

Meet Lloyd! We got a call last week about a 10 lb baby goat that needed help. We got him to safety in our farm animal foster home, and then transferred him to one of our rescue partners, where he will live a happy life! We work mostly with cats and dogs, but won't turn away any animal that one of our foster homes can care for. We've helped 12 different species of animals! This was our first goat.

In 2023, we spayed or neutered 406 animals, and removed 614 animals from the Reservation. We transported them to our rescue partner organizations that specialize in rehoming. Since our inception, we’ve spayed/neutered 3155, and removed 5481.?These numbers tell the stories of the thousands of animals whose lives have been changed for the better, and these stories wouldn’t have been possible without our donors.?Thank you! https://lnkd.in/dRJV58SA
