Wherever you are in Lake County, Ohio, you’re never more than 10 minutes from exploring and enjoying Lake Metroparks. Its boundaries are coterminous with the boundaries of Lake County, located immediately east of Cuyahoga County. The southern shoreline of Lake Erie forms the northern boundary of the park district. Lake Metroparks was formed in 1958 under the authority of Chapter 1545 of the Ohio Revised Code and is a separate political subdivision of the state of Ohio. The Lake County Probate Court Judge appoints a three-member board of citizens to govern Lake Metroparks. Lake Metroparks Board of Park Commissioners serve, without compensation, for three-year alternating terms. Lake Metroparks' board and staff are committed to the community, which is reflected in the balanced offering of programs shaped to fulfill the agency's mission: To conserve and preserve the natural resources of Lake County while providing a variety of safe, affordable and enjoyable educational and recreational programs and activities that enhance the quality of life in Lake County now and for the generations to follow.

Each spring (since 1989), we branch out to first grade classrooms across Lake County to present our 'Trees for Wildlife' program. With digital media, interactive discussions and a tree-care pledge from special guest Woody the Tree, the presentation aims to teach kids about the importance of conservation and to foster a true love for nature. ?? All students in attendance receive a pine seedling to plant, courtesy of The Lubrizol Corporation.

Thanks to the American Red Cross of Northern Ohio?for recently honoring three Lake Metroparks employees with?#RedCross?Lifesaving Awards for taking action and demonstrating exceptional lifesaving skills when needed most.???
It's always gratifying to present Lifesaving Awards to heroes who step in to save someone's life by using the skills learned in a #RedCross First Aid/CPR/AED course. Especially during Sudden Cardiac Awareness Month. Northern Ohio CEO Mike Parks this week honored Lake Metroparks employees Scott Kayla and Glenn Sabruno and Ranger Aleks Crisler. They saved an elderly man in cardiac arrest at Pine Ridge Golf Course last spring, by performing #CPR and using an #AED. You can nominate someone here: https://lnkd.in/dCcyQk3. Environmental Biology Student Minoring in Sustainability, Energy, and the Environment at the University of Dayton
Over the summer, I was lucky enough to complete a wildlife rehabilitation internship at Lake Metroparks Penitentiary Glen's Wildlife Center. I was able to help with husbandry and care-taking tasks of several different rehabilitation and resident animals including various birds, bunnies, squirrels, opossums, foxes, and more. Some tasks that I was responsible for were preparing diets, giving medications, setting up enclosures, feeding rehab animals via tubing or tweezers, providing enrichment, and cleaning resident cages. Due to privacy reasons, I can only share a few select pictures, but I am so incredibly thankful for this amazing opportunity. A special thank you to everyone that I worked with at Lake Metroparks!
