"Unfortunately, the impact of road salt on aquatic ecosystems can only be described as devastating." This recent report highlights a growing crisis—road salt is making waterways toxic to wildlife in Ottawa and beyond. The reality is that this isn’t just a problem for one region; excessive salt use is degrading freshwater ecosystems across North America and the world. At the?Lake George Association, we have long recognized the threat that road salt poses to our lake and watershed. That’s why we’ve led the charge in reducing salt use, working hand-in-hand with municipalities, businesses, and residents to implement smarter, sustainable winter maintenance practices. Our success at?Lake George?proves that it’s possible to?keep roads safe while protecting freshwater. By investing in advanced technology, training road crews, and promoting practical alternatives, we’ve significantly cut salt use—without compromising public safety. Lake George is becoming a model for other communities facing this challenge, and we stand ready to help others follow our lead. Freshwater is too valuable to sacrifice.?It’s time to rethink how we use salt and take bold steps to protect our lakes, rivers, and drinking water. Let’s work together to create a future where winter safety and clean water go hand in hand. #RoadSalt #FreshwaterProtection #LakeGeorge #Sustainability #CleanWater #ConservationLeadership https://lnkd.in/gHq-T_QF

Grateful. Inspired. Honored. This stunning winter view of Lake George perfectly captures why I feel so fortunate to step into my role as the Executive Director of the Lake George Association. Protecting this treasure isn’t just a job—it’s a passion and a privilege. Lake George has long been admired for its pristine waters and natural beauty, and I’m excited to work alongside a community of dedicated individuals who share a deep commitment to safeguarding it for generations to come. As someone who’s devoted my career to understanding and protecting lakes, I’m eager to bring my expertise in lake science to serve this incredible place. But just as important, I want to listen, connect, and collaborate with all of you—the residents, visitors, and advocates who make Lake George what it is. Together, we can ensure this lake remains the “Queen of American Lakes” forever. I’d love to hear from you—whether you’re passionate about lake health, curious about how we protect it, or simply want to share your own Lake George story. Let’s protect this beautiful place together. ????

  • The start of a new year brings opportunities to learn, grow, and become better versions of ourselves. But, goals tend to quickly dwindle and seem out of reach because we often start too big. Mounting environmental threats due to climate change can make environmental protection work seem daunting - but as with most things, it starts with small actions we take in our own backyards. Protecting Lake George is a commitment we make for ourselves, our families, and future generations. But, how do we begin? As an LGA member, you are not only making a financial commitment to supporting our science-guided Lake protection programs, you are joining a community of individuals, families, and businesses dedicated to ensuring the water of Lake George remains clear, clean, and safe for generations to come. Join the LGA or renew your membership to take the first step in Lake protection. We will send you breaking news, volunteer opportunities, and educational resources to help you along the way: https://lnkd.in/gRK_qdhB Happy New Year! #2025 #LakeGeorgeAssociation #newyearsresolutions #lakeprotection #freshwater #LakeGeorgeNY
