Last week I visited the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI), and it's clear to see why they're a launchpad for climate and energy ?? startups. LACI is more than just a workspace – it offers entrepreneurs a unique blend of resources, including expert mentorship, partnerships, access to funding, and community, all in an effort to deploy climate and energy tech ??, fuel job creation ?, and create a sustainable future. ?? Here's LACI by the numbers: ?? 506 portfolio companies?? ?? >$1 billion in funding raised (from 422 portfolio companies) ?? $344 million in revenue generated ?? >2,600 jobs created throughout Los Angeles? ?? >400 individuals received technical and certification training (so far) to operate in the energy sector ?? $587 million, projected long-term economic impact LACI is cultivating a promising network of climate tech startups in the heart of the LA Arts District. Today LACI and 16 other clean air champions took out a full-page Sacramento Bee advertisement to remind California's leaders that the Advanced Clean Cars rule is succeeding and building a more prosperous California. While getting more affordable EV options into dealership showrooms, California has become the fifth largest economy in the world, increasing gross domestic product and even making EVs one of its biggest exports worth $15 billion. ???? Last week, our Transportation Electrification Partnership (TEP) convened at TEP partner Rivian's South Coast Theater for a day of collaboration! TEP members discussed future zero emissions vehicle policy, industry updates, and Rivian's newest delivery truck models. We are seeking information from technology providers that offer zero emission transportation and/or related clean energy solutions to be considered for a pilot in the Warner Center neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley. This week, our Senior Director of Energy Mayte Sanchez represented LACI at the California Energy Commission's 2025 CEC / EPRI Electrification Summit in Sacramento. Attendees discussed research at the interface of air quality-related health, equity, and energy, along with the impacts and challenges of residential electrification at household and community levels. Mayte shared her expertise on a panel entitled "Health Benefits of Building Decarbonization," highlighting our Clean Energy Partnership's work to accelerate the electrification of our homes and buildings. She also discussed our induction stove retrofit and air quality monitoring pilot in which we found clear air quality benefits from switching from gas to induction stove. Also in attendance at the summit were local government officials, including City of LA Deputy Mayor Nancy Sutley, who discussed novel building decarbonization policy pathways under consideration in LA. Mayte shared one of her biggest takeaways from the Local Government Electrification Leadership panel she listened in on: "Local government in California is at the forefront of devising building decarbonization solutions that support the state's climate goals." We are proud to have had Mayte represent LACI and our Clean Energy Partnership at such an important discussion.
