Transition Aged Youth are young people between the ages of?18?and 24, making up 3% of LA’s homeless population. At LAHSA, we do all we can to ensure this vulnerable community is cared for. January was a hard start to the year for many Angelenos, and LAHSA did everything it could to support our unhoused neighbors through dedicated outreach, housing initiatives, and vital support services. Here is some of the lifesaving work we did last month.

On January 30, the Project Homekey-funded site Weingart Willows held its ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the beautiful 53-unit building. LAHSA CEO Dr. Adams Kellum was joined by former Senator Murray and elected officials to commemorate the occasion. LAHSA has seen an increase in the number of people our system has brought indoors, and Weingart Willows provides an opportunity to move people into permanent housing.

On Tuesday, January 21, in partnership with FEMA, LAHSA hosted a wildfire relief event for people experiencing homelessness at its Welcome Navigation Center. During the event, FEMA helped individuals apply for assistance with serious needs, displacement, personal property, and other challenges. In addition to receiving assistance with FEMA applications, participants received donations such as food, pet supplies, bedding, hygiene products, clothing, and more. City of LA DOT supported client transportation and LA County DPSS staff were on hand to provide additional resources. A special thank you to @jimmykimmel and his team for their generous donation and contribution to the cause. Los Angeles, we will continue to do all we can to support those affected by the wildfires.
