New post! Most folks who stop to talk with me when I am out sketching in a public place say, “That’s so cool. I wish I could do that, but I am just not creative.” This happened to me just last week at a hotel restaurant in San Francisco, of all places. “You are not creative” is a lie we are told when we are young, that creativity has something to do with drawing or painting skills. Creativity is thinking outside the box we are assigned. It is the act of imagining a different future, solution, or way of being.? Read the rest on my blog:

Starting in 2017 with LASIK surgery, my ability to use my eyes was limited to about two hours per day, broken up into 5-10 minute increments. This is the story of what impact that had on the trajectory of my life, and how it informs my work as a creative coach. ?? Series #5: Cape Kiwanda Tidepool with Starfish, Oregon I visited the Oregon coast last spring and went out to the tidepools at low tide. My mom and I explored this one super cool rock, covered with sea anemone, mussels, and purple starfish.? Tide was coming in fast, so I made my quick pencil sketch (see photo 2) then finished the drawing and watercolor back at the beach house later that day. ?? Series #2: The Otis Cafe, Highway 101 in Lincoln City, Oregon Coast. For those in the know, the Otis Cafe was literally the only restaurant in the tiny coastal town of Otis, Oregon, until it tragically burned to the ground several years ago. The sign, however, was unharmed. The restaurant has since moved to Lincoln City, along with the historic neon sign. I painted this sketch while waiting outside for my order, which was some terrific hash browns, as I recall. ?? Series #1: Ecola Beach, Oregon Coast. My mom took this photo on a family trip years ago, and requested a painting of it for her birthday. She has the original above her desk, and even painted her entire office Prussian Blue to coordinate with the watercolor paint I used for the Pacific Ocean along the horizon. Making this painting helped me develop my style. I like to paint landscapes in a vibrant, almost video-game style that has bright colors, whimsy, and lots of movement.
