Sometimes you have to go door-to-door. This is my Town Manager William Lawrence, who, when I explained I felt uneasy about our communication with a community prone to flooding, jumped up out of his chair and said, “Let’s go!” I quickly printed flyers with Hurricane Milton information and resources, and off we went. I am so happy that we did because, although we gave out 3,000 sandbags in the last day and a half, these residents were not aware of our sandbag operation. Some spoke English as a second language and did not know our emergency alerts are available in more than 30 languages. Others were given misinformation about shelters. They were so thankful that town officials would take the time to visit them personally to check on them and make sure they had accurate information with which to make good decisions. I'm grateful to work for an organization with leadership that supports innovation and technology, and also understands that sometimes you have to go door- to-door.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Town of Lady Lake staff are proud to show their support! Together, we stand united in spreading awareness, honoring survivors, and remembering those who have fought this courageous battle. This month, Human Resources organized PINK Day, where staff wore pink to show solidarity, and arranged a wellness presentation featuring an Advent Health radiation oncologist. Let's continue raising awareness, supporting research, and encouraging early detection.
