#EvolutionDay commemorates the publication of Charles Darwin's "On the Origin of Species" on November 24, 1859. In his revolutionary book, Darwin introduced a "theory of evolution," which proposed that species develop traits over generations to adapt to their surroundings through a process called "natural selection." This theory was based on his observations of several Galapagos Islands finch species, which exhibited different beak shapes that were adapted to eat certain foods. The Fibonacci sequence (0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8…) pops up everywhere—from sunflower seeds and pinecones to seashells and hurricanes! This sequence, where each number is the sum of the two before it, is also connected to the Golden Ratio, creating spirals so perfect they’re called “divine proportions.” Discover the wonders of Fibonacci in everyday life! #FibonacciDay #GoldenRatio #STEM #ScienceEducation #LabXchange Alt text: Slide 1: Text reads "Fibonacci Day" with four hexagons featuring illustrations: a fossil, a sunflower, a succulent, and a leaf. The Fibonacci sequence is superimposed over these images, highlighting the spiral pattern in each. Slide 2: A closeup of a sunflower. The seeds in the middle of the flower spiral outwards. Slide 3: A photograph of a snail. Its shell has a distinct spiral pattern. Slide 4: A photograph of a succulent. Its leaves spiral outward from the middle. Slide 5: A photograph of a chameleon’s tail. It’s curled, creating a spiral pattern.

LabXchange’s RDEISE project would not be possible without the work of an incredible team of faculty and fellows. Winning the Silver Award in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion category at The Anthem Awards is a testament to their hard work and dedication. We celebrate the outstanding contributions of our 22 graduate fellows and the leadership of the faculty steering committee, whose interdisciplinary expertise guided this initiative. Their collective efforts have brought high-quality, accessible resources to educators and students, helping to address racial inequities in healthcare, education, and STEM. RDEISE steering committee members: - Bita Amani, Associate Professor, Department of Urban Public Health at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science - Frinny Polanco, Faculty Assistant Director, Harvard Medical School Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership - Ivory Toldson, Professor of Counseling Psychology, Department of Human Development and Psychoeducational Studies, Howard University - Jamiella Brooks, Director, Student Equity & Inclusion Initiatives at University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School - Joseph Graves Jr , Professor of Biological Sciences, Department of Biology, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University - Julia F. Greenhouse gas emissions significantly affect the Earth's temperature, a key topic of debate at COP29 as nations work to limit global warming. This simulation by The Concord Consortium allows students to explore how changing human emissions of greenhouse gases might affect the earth's temperature, making it easier to understand the science behind climate change. Levels of organization exist all around us. Just like Earth is a planet in a galaxy, a person is a part of a population in an ecosystem. Explore how cells group together to form tissues, how tissues group together to form organs, and how organs work together in organ systems that make up a fully functioning organism. If the Earth’s average temperature were to rise by 1.5 or 2 degrees Celsius, what impact would it have on animals, plants, weather patterns, and human activity? As global leaders meet at COP29 to discuss urgent climate action, the "Understanding Climate Change" pathway created by Take Action Global on LabXchange helps students explore the science behind these discussions. Through interactive learning experiences, they can dig into the science of climate impacts, connect with peers worldwide, and use data to spark innovative solutions that make a real difference in addressing our planet's environmental challenges. Explore the pathway: https://bit.ly/3Ct1C15 #COP29 #ClimateAction #ScienceEducation #STEM
