Last month, false immigration threats spread panic in our community.? In an article published by Katie DeBenedetti of KQED, La Raza CRC’s Gabriel Medina (馬德拿) spoke on the impact of false threats, and how we can combat them: “We all have to take a little bit of a deep breath when we hear any of these calls and assess them. We’re all impacted by it, but we also have to keep in mind who we represent, who we’re fighting for, and make sure to verify and give out good information and be extra careful and understand the impact of any information we share.” For accurate, up-to-date information on immigration activity in San Francisco, visit the Rapid Response Network’s website at www.sfrrn.org. Together, we can help vulnerable families find power, instead of panic - in our city & beyond. #CommunityPower #ImmigrantRights #SanFrancisco #ICERaids #Immigration #Inmigracion #Sanctuary

Serving Spanish-Speaking families in San Francisco since 1970 ??? Family, Food, and Legal Services
关于我们
Our Mission: To serve as a bridge between San Francisco and Spanish speaking immigrant families with direct support and advocacy to ensure Latino and Indigenous immigrant communities can access resources, realize their power, and thrive. La Raza Community Resource Center is a bilingual, multi-service, non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the social service, immigration, educational, and leadership development needs of low-income families and individuals. The majority of La Raza participants are Spanish-speaking families and individuals of all ages, living in the Mission District of San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. But we serve a diverse body of individuals from the vast and various ethnic groups in the community. The agency provides city wide services, and is located in Centro Del Pueblo, a facility that houses several non-profit agencies. Most of La Raza participants are Spanish-speaking families and individuals of all ages who reside in the Mission District and the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Other ethnic groups served are African American, Caucasian and Asian /Pacific Islander. The agency provides citywide services and is in the North Mission area.

As an immigrant, I know firsthand the challenges of navigating the immigration system while striving for stability and opportunity. That’s why I’m proud to support La Raza Community Resource Center, a trusted lifeline for immigrant families in San Francisco, providing essential legal aid, food security, and social services in times of heightened uncertainty. To help sustain their vital work, I’m personally matching donations made through Turner’s Kitchen via my own DAF! TURNER'S KITCHEN, a beloved Mission sandwich shop and a longtime favorite of parkgoers and food lovers, is serving up their incredible sandwiches through their final day this Friday, Feb 28. If you're in SF this week, let’s show up, grab a sandwich, and support this great cause together! ?? We're standing with the SF Board of Supervisors' defense of Birthright Citizenship – a core pillar of human rights in our country. As detailed in a press release by Chinese for Affirmative Action, the Board is moving forward with a resolution reaffirming the 14th Amendment in the face of immigration threats. Our Executive Director, Gabriel Medina (馬德拿), is quoted, reminding us of history: "Our elders raised us mindful of Operation Wetback, the militaristic rounding-up and deportation of anyone brown and Spanish-speaking. Neither farm labor programs nor naturalization offered protection while birthright citizenship is the biggest hope for inclusion, equality, and belonging for immigrant parents. More fundamentally it has been the strongest protection their children could attain from a repeat of this horror. We see today how Latino children are taught to memorize their Social Security numbers before they can even read.” This isn't just a legal issue; it's about our values and the future of our community. ?? Power, not Panic! ?? On February 11th, we hosted a vital Know Your Rights workshop tailored for community organizations like shelters and family resource centers, in collaboration with Mission Action, San Francisco Immigrant Legal & Education Network, and Compass Family Services. Our Immigration Attorney Marlene Lara, alongside Finn Palamaro from SFILEN, delivered a comprehensive workshop & discussion space covering crucial aspects of immigrant rights and organizational responsibilities, including ?? ICE Protocols: Understanding what ICE can and cannot do, differentiating between administrative and judge-signed warrants, and recognizing the limitations of ICE's authority in sanctuary cities like San Francisco. ?? Individual Rights: Empowering community members to assert their rights during encounters with immigration officials, emphasizing the right to remain silent and the importance of consulting with an attorney. ?? Protecting Private Spaces: Equipping organizations with strategies to safeguard their spaces and clients, including establishing clear protocols, training frontline staff, and understanding legal boundaries. ?? Emergency Preparedness: Providing resources like Immigration Preparedness Toolkits to help communities prepare for potential ICE encounters and access legal support. Let's work together to foster a culture of power, not panic. Big thanks to Alisha Zhao and Hope Kamer, MSW for their organizing and outreach, and to Laura Valdez and Gabriel Medina (馬德拿) for their opening and closing! Together, we thrive. #ImmigrantRights #KnowYourRights #CommunityEmpowerment #SanFrancisco #NonprofitSupport
