ACT NOW! We need the power of the people to fight H.R. 9495 & ensure that nonprofits can continue providing services and advocacy at this critical time when our communities are under attack. This alarming piece of legislation in Congress, H.R. 9495, would allow the government to designate any nonprofit as a "terrorist supporting organization," & then require that organization to prove itself innocent to avoid revocation of its tax-exempt status. The House of Representatives is scheduled to consider H.R. 9495 this week, with a vote likely on Wednesday. While intended to be anti-terrorism legislation, all people served by nonprofits should be concerned about the dangerous precedent this bill could establish & the potential for abuse by the Executive Branch. Please take action now! Take Action: Tell Congress to OPPOSE H.R. 9495 1. Visit the IS Action Center to sign a petition to oppose H.R. 9495. 2. Call your Congressional Representative TODAY and urge them to vote NO on H.R. 9495 when it comes up again for a vote. You can find contact information for your Member of Congress here. And the list of California representatives who already voted yes on previous votes here. 3. Social Media Engagement: Post on your platforms and tag your Representative to urge them to oppose H.R.9495.

Mission District Warriors Since 1973. The spirit of the Chicanx law students that founded La Raza Centro Legal is still alive. We are here to support all of our community. Somos del puebo y para el pueblo, ahora y siempre. We know that times are hard now but please don't give up. Take a deep breath, échate una llorada o uno gritos, and do what you need to do to take care of yourself. We still have some time to strategize and plan with our communities before any political changes take effect. Then, we warrior up and do what we do best, fight for civil and human rights! We have been working with the community since 1973. Our community has fought many hard battles before this. We will get through this too. Although, we are all worried about the future and any changes that may come in 2025, we are committed to nuestra comunidad and we will dedicate all of our resources to protecting and supporting the folks that need us most. We are ready to protect and advance the rights of everyone in our community whether you speak Spanish, Maya Mam, Garifuna, or any other language. We will defend our elders, people with disabilities, Indigenous migrants, asylum seekers, victims of gender violence, TS-LGBTQ relatives, migrant workers, unsheltered relatives, noncitizen victims of crimes, mixed status families, and anyone facing civil or human rights issues. We will stay unified and ignite a movement with the power of the people. Together, we can respond to any challenges that may lie ahead. You can rest assured that La Raza Centro Legal will always stand shoulder-to-shoulder with community en las buenas y en las malas. We will continue to provide free legal services, advocacy, and hold space for all. Here to serve, as always. Don't despair, we are here for you, and we will get through this. We've got you!
