LA Public Press partnered with?Boyle Heights Beat, a youth-run community news outlet, to host a forum for the Los Angeles City Council’s 14th district. Since?protests and even physical fights?have followed the district’s controversy-ridden incumbent,?Kevin de León, LA Public Press knew they needed to think about safety. So Mariah Casta?eda, co-founder and director of audience at LA Public Press, formed a community safety team for the forum. What is the distinction between a community safety team and police presence? ?

LA Public Press’ first zine, “How to get your landlord to do their job” is now available at the Los Angeles Public Library! ?? After surveying 100s of LA residents, we identified a need for bilingual resources for tenants. So proud of our team and our zine.

LA Public Press and Boyle Heights Beat surveyed dozens of District 14 residents to prepare for this student led debate. I'm so proud of this effort to include community members in the process of asking candidates running to represent City Council District 14 important questions. Very excited to partner with Boyle Heights Beat, tune in on Saturday!

Very excited LA Public Press is partnering with Boyle Heights Beat on a student-led city council debate in District 14. There aren’t many opportunities for folks to get to know their candidates and even fewer where students from the district take the lead. Boyle Heights Beat has been doing this kind of work for years and I’m excited to work with them on an event like this. We’re expecting a big turnout, but we’ll also be streaming the forum live this Saturday.
