For survivors of domestic violence, privacy and safety are essential. Did you know that Social Security offers the option to apply for a new Social Security Number (SSN), under certain conditions, if you’ve been a victim of domestic violence? This step can help protect you and ensure greater security as you rebuild. We've recently expanded our reach by partnering with UCSF's Medical Safe Haven Program (MSH) to have an onsite advocate assist survivors of human trafficking and intimate partner violence. Last month, we added a second advocate at 850 Bryant to collaborate with the Special Victims Unit in responding to emergency DV calls, and we added a fourth advocate to our Family and Children Services (FCS). These new positions are a testament to our meaningful work and impact on survivors' lives. Some of these NEW positions and other exciting career opportunities are still open for applications. We had a super fun second annual Staff Wellness Day!! This year, our Staff Wellness Day landed on International Self Care Day, fitting considering La Casa’s Wellness Day was first put together to recognize the need for self-care in our field, particularly for our amazing team that provides direct support to survivors of domestic violence and their children. We extend a special thank you to our adorable SF SPCA friends, @alex.thegreat100 and @trudyonduty_sf , whose presence added an extra layer of joy to the day.

Today, the Supreme Court made the right call in United States v. Rahimi, overturning the Fifth Circuit Court’s decision and broadly upholding the constitutionality of firearm removal in cases with a domestic violence protection order. Prohibiting domestic abusers from accessing firearms is lifesaving and constitutional. Read our full statement here: https://bit.ly/4biOXtk #UnitedStatesvRahimi #RahimiDecision #DomesticViolence
