"Finding a field of stones made of pure sulfur is like finding an oasis in the desert," said Curiosity’s project scientist, Ashwin Vasavada. "It shouldn’t be there, so now we have to explain it. Discovering strange and unexpected things is what makes planetary exploration so exciting."
Scientists were stunned recently when a rock the Curiosity rover drove over cracked open to reveal something never before seen on the Red Planet: yellow sulfur crystals. While the rover has previously detected sulfur-based minerals, this rock is made of pure, elemental sulfur. "Finding a field of stones made of pure sulfur is like finding an oasis in the desert," said Curiosity’s project scientist, Ashwin Vasavada. "It shouldn’t be there, so now we have to explain it. Discovering strange and unexpected things is what makes planetary exploration so exciting." More on this news: go.nasa.gov/3WdKZNh

DIU Blue UAS program undergoing significant changes
To meet the ever evolving needs of the warfighter, the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU)'s Blue UAS program is undergoing significant changes. This includes updates to the competitive, market driven entry points for new and existing partners to provide solutions from hardware, components and software, across the U.S. Department of Defense. “As drone use increases in conflicts, DIU’s “Blue List”, a list of cleared and approved drones, must be more agile and responsive to both DoD and commercial partner needs,” said Trent W. Emeneker, DIU Blue UAS program manager (contractor). Over the past three months, DIU has increased the verified number of Framework components from 5 to 36, providing additional options to our end users and commercial partners. On 28 May, the Skydio X10D, Anduril Industries Ghost / Ghost X, and Freefly Systems Astro were added to the Blue List. Read more below.
