Project Spotlight: Container Terminal LDSS Building Location: NY Harbor ? Kyle Conti Construction (KCC) is enthused to share a previous project at a container terminal in the NY Harbor.?KCC was selected as the General Contractor to accommodate a new "one over three" straddle carrier fleet, for the expedited construction of the Light Duty Straddle Carrier Shop (LDSS). This new 94’ wide by 124’ long maintenance facility was crucial due to the height requirements of the carriers, necessitating a 55’ tall entrance door that exceeded the capabilities of their existing maintenance building. Given the operational constraints of the live container terminal environment, construction highlights included precise site utilization, rerouting of utilities, and the installation of deep steel H-piles to support the 70’ tall structure. The project also involved the meticulous construction of reinforced concrete foundations to ensure stability and durability amidst the terminal’s continuous 24/7 operations. Please reach out to discuss more of this project of your next endeavor!

Key highlights include fortifying the infrastructure with protective bollards at conductor busbar ends and electrical substation pads, implementing ground and electrical systems using reinforced concrete ductbanks for power and communications, and seamlessly integrating the infrastructure into the existing conditions. All of this is achieved through careful coordination with terminal operations to minimize disruptions and synchronize all project elements. Please don't hesitate to contact us directly to discuss further details or your next project.

Project Spotlight: Private Container Terminal Maintenance Mezzanine KCC constructed a Maintenance Mezzanine for a major container terminal operator.?It was a project that evolved to meet demanding equipment maintenance activities.?The contract consisted of the phased fabrication and phased installation of a new 42' tall by 140' long, multi-level structural steel Maintenance Mezzanine Structure, with access stairs, safety yellow railings, and caged ladders.?Also included, was the extension of the existing Overhead Crane Rails and the installation of a new Personnel Elevator along with a reinforced concrete elevator pit inside the Maintenance Building, which is where the Straddle Carriers are serviced and repaired.?To serve the new Mezzanine Structure, KCC provided power to the extended Crane Rails and to the new Elevator and extended the Lube Oil System to the new Maintenance Platforms.?All work was closely coordinated with in-house Project Engineering, Safety, and Mechanic & Maintenance Staff to ensure that the work was performed safely and without interruption to their operations, which run almost continuously 24/7. ?KCC is now fortunate to be working with this Terminal Operator on another similar structure.

Project Spotlight: "Private Fright Rail Bridge Replacement" This project aimed to replace a historical bridge on a private freight railway to improve safety and efficiency. By using precise engineering and construction methods, we reduced disruptions to railway operations during the replacement. The design meticulously prepared the steel superstructure off-site to boost onsite installation productivity. Our tasks included clearing, confirming dimensions between old and new bridges, erosion control, driving steel pipe piles, fitting steel bent caps, and setting up support for pile-to-cap beam connections. Surveying was vital for the steel piles to fit precisely with the cap beams and avoid the locations of fiber optic cables. Other duties involved removing timber bents, ensuring a thorough and efficient project completion to update the bridge to meet industry standards for durability, load capacity, and reliability. We also implemented a strategy to comply with NJDEP State Historical Society requests for the existing structure. This project showcases KCC's dedication to helping clients build a strong and dependable infrastructure network to boost the region's economic vitality.

With the recent weather events, here is a flood resiliency project built for times like these... Project Spotlight: USACE Green Brook Flood Damage Reduction Project in Bound Brook, NJ This project involved a combination of Heavy Civil Construction as well as Building Construction Trades to complete this important flood protection facility for the Town of Bound Brook, NJ.?Working in the flood prone region of Bound Brook at the congested intersection of South Main Street and Railroad Avenue, KCC’s crew “shoe-horned” this project into a very small site that was bordered by main roads, an embankment that supported an operating passenger railroad, and an operational firehouse that had to be always kept in operation.?In addition to maintaining the flow of vehicular traffic, KCC provided a temporary pedestrian bridge to maintain pedestrian traffic on an adjacent sidewalk that was temporarily removed during the foundation work.???
