Assessing the rates of 659 water providers across Arizona, the new Tap Water Affordability study?from the Kyl Center for Water Policy finds that most systems can increase rates while remaining affordable for low-income households. Additionally, the study highlights that tap water costs in Arizona are significantly lower than those for electric power. Grant Heminger, Policy and Research Analyst at the Kyl Center, recently discussed these findings on Arizona PBS #ArizonaHorizon. How should Arizona manage its groundwater for the future? Groundwater supplies 41% of Arizona’s water, yet in many areas, it’s being used far faster than nature can replenish it. With new limits on groundwater-reliant growth and ongoing pressures from Colorado River shortages, how Arizona chooses to manage this resource will shape its economy, communities and long-term sustainability. In a new explainer for the Arizona Capitol Times, the Kyl Center for Water Policy breaks down why groundwater management matters, what’s at stake and the critical questions lawmakers should ask before making changes to Arizona’s groundwater laws. ??
