Yesterday, we proudly welcomed home eight dedicated emergency management professionals from across the Commonwealth who deployed to Haywood County, North Carolina, less than 48 hours after Hurricane Helene ravaged the Southeast. For 11 days, the team supported critical response efforts, forming an Incident Management Team to assist in the aftermath of the disaster. Half of the team operated a central receiving and distribution site, managing helicopters and trucks delivering supplies. They sorted and organized these supplies and distributed them to over 20 distribution points, where survivors could access essential resources. The other half of the team integrated with response teams from North Carolina and Indiana to manage search and rescue missions and conduct hundreds of welfare checks. After those teams were demobilized, our team took over full incident management. “It was an incredible honor to serve as the Operations Section Chief for the KYEM IMT CRDP Team during our deployment to North Carolina,” said Re’Jeana Craft, Deputy Director of Scott County Emergency Management. “I had the privilege of working alongside remarkable individuals whose commitment and teamwork made a lasting impact during a challenging time.”
