Resiliency should be Rewarded. ?? Great article from Ryan Kennedy on a recent kWh Analytics case study where we found a 72% natural catastrophe rate decrease for a solar site in hail-exposed Texas. The key? Not only did the asset owner protect against geographic perils with thick glass panels and an operationalized hail stow strategy, but they also PROVED their resilience to carriers. They submitted logs that showed that they stowed effectively for 90% of the past year's hail events, and even provided images as evidence of their maximum stow angle. Solar, battery, and wind asset owners who invest in measures to harden assets against weather-related risks should get credit for it from their carrier, so we can all build toward a resilient clean-energy future. pv magazine USA pv magazine Global
????????-?????????? ?????????? ?????????? ?????????????? ???????? ?????????????????? ?????????? ???? ????% ?? ?? A case study by kWh Analytics demonstrated the value of building a resilient, weather-hardened solar facility. Texas is the utility-scale solar leader in the United States, building vast amounts of solar capacity on large tracts of land. However, much of the state experiences heavy hailstorms that can cause widespread damage to solar assets. This has led to an increase in insurance costs for the industry, with premiums that have increased as much as 400% ↗ DNV estimates that since 2018, hail-related losses on PV facilities in Texas alone have surpassed $600 million. At the Fighting Jays solar farm in Fort Bend County, Texas, a hail event in March 2024 is expected to result in remediation costs reaching hundreds of millions, potentially ?????????????????? ????% ???? ?????????????? ???????????????????????? ??????????? We're excited to announce that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has given us the green light to continue into phase two of our PV reliability research project. Through analysis of O&M logs across hundreds of solar sites, our data science team has uncovered key insights about equipment failures and reliability measures that will help shape the future of solar insurance. Our mission is to create a 'safe driver discount' for solar assets - rewarding owners who implement best practices and invest in reliability. Thank you to the DOE SETO team for their partnership as we work to build a more resilient clean energy future. Stay tuned for our research findings in 2025.
