Hackers, Mentors & AI—How They Built in Weeks What Usually Takes Years At #SCaLE22x, a group of hackers and mentors came together for the Kwaai mimik hackathon unlike any other. In just a few weeks, they built working AI-driven solutions that would normally take months or years of roadmaps, procurement cycles, and committees. Yeled Omercy, the sole coder behind DIY Parties, built a fully functional platform in just two weeks—something that would have taken months or years without AI. "I had no front-end web experience, but AI-assisted coding enabled me to rapidly prototype, debug, and automate—letting me focus on the problem, not the tools." What they proved: Open-source, decentralized AI is ready to solve real-world problems. Hackathons are not just competitions—they are the new R&D labs. Procurement needs to change—innovation happens at breakneck speed now. These teams weren’t just coding. They were reshaping how we build, respond to crises, and deploy technology. I break it all down in my latest article on Automated Buildings: https://lnkd.in/gQjb6u74 Are we ready to rethink how we build solutions? Or are we still stuck in outdated processes? The mentors: Reza Rassool of Kwaai Jon Connors of Restore-A-Thon? Ruth Rassool of Kwaai Chakradhar Chekuri Victor H. Esch, Jr. of Bethesda Fire Department, Inc. The Hackers: Yeled Omercy Aakarsh Surendra Manan Shah Sachin Lodhi Jayde Mitchell Craig Albuquerque Dustin Wish Fred Schechter Liam Broza #AI #Hackathons #SmartCities #DigitalTwins #OpenSource #Innovation #AutomatedBuildings

How can AI make buildings smarter?
#DigitalTwins and #AI—Are Two Closed Worlds Colliding? LIVE from #SCaLE22x in Pasadena—where open-source AI is reshaping the built environment. Watch this short clip from my conversation with Reza Rassool of Kwaai about a growing problem. Digital Twins and AI are both facing the same issue—closed, vendor-locked systems. Now, they’re merging. Instead of making buildings and cities smarter, we’re at risk of combining two black-box ecosystems into an even bigger problem. What’s Happening? ? A handful of corporations are controlling AI. ? Building systems & digital twins are locked inside proprietary silos. ??If we don’t act, AI-driven digital twins will be even more closed-off—trapping owners, operators, and cities in a system they can’t control. What’s the Alternative? At SCaLE 22x, Kwaai and mimik powered a hackathon on AI-driven emergency response, proving that decentralized intelligence and edge AI are the way forward. Imagine buildings and communities that can: ? Operate independently in an emergency—even when the grid is down. ? Use real-time telemetry from sensors to help first responders. ? Break free from proprietary lock-in and share data on their own terms. What’s Next? We’re exploring making buildings smarter—leveraging edge AI and open systems enabled by C4SB - Coalition for Smarter Buildings and The Linux Foundation . Watch the full interviews & deep dive on AutomatedBuildings and view the list of Hackathon Winners in : https://lnkd.in/gTyevi6p In future posts, we’ll feature the winning teams—showing their solutions and what they mean for smart buildings & resilience. What do you think? Will Digital Twins and AI evolve into open systems—or are we heading toward an even bigger black box? #OpenSourceAI #SmartBuildings #DigitalTwins #Decentralization #AI #EmergencyResponse #WhyAreSmartBuildingsDumb #BIM
