What a day we had yesterday! From shopping to headshots to panel discussions to JENNA BUSH HAGER, it was an amazing, motivating day spent with 500 of the most amazing women in the upstate. I’m so appreciative of the Metromont family and my fellow panelist, Suzanne Aultman, for the support and motivation to talk about what I know best “Navigating the Corporate Ladder.” We were able to celebrate being strong, unique, empowered women with ‘something to prove’ while learning from panel discussions on mental health, personal brand, leading the charge in investing, community engagement, and the corporate ladder. Then we wrapped the day up with Jenna Bush Hager! The KVH ladies outdid themselves with planning this amazing event. Every box was checked and everything was very well-thought out. I was lucky enough to join Kylie Felker from Foster Victor Wealth Advisors at the inaugural KVH Women in Business Summit and find inspiration from a remarkable group of female leaders with stunning careers. What a day we had yesterday! The KVH Women in Business Summit challenged the 500 women in the room to ask “what is the why behind what I do?” and “what do I want to be true about me?” All day incredible women inspired us and made us laugh. The depth was in the five expert panels that tackled navigating the corporate ladder, leading in investing, personal and professional brand, prioritizing mental and physical health, and community engagement. We learned that the corporate ladder isn’t just a vertical climb, and we often take sidesteps as we become more ourselves. We were encouraged not to act out of fear and to be a safe enough risk taker. We heard the importance of showing our unique and specialized selves in how we present to the world. We were reminded we must care for ourselves mentally and physically through our checkups, setting boundaries, and finding our community. We heard about the importance of giving back to the community and the impact it has on the community and us. We wrapped up the day welcoming Jenna Bush Hager to Greenville for a conversation between her and Katie. Jenna is delightful and has remained grounded, even though her family is a high profile family, because her parents made it a priority to be present to her and her sister. I had the privilege of being on the prioritizing our health panel moderated by the fabulous Amy Wood The Interactive Social TV News Pioneer. Joining me on the panel were three outstanding women - Erin Thurston, Stephanie Machacek, and Anna Courie, DNP, RN, PHNA-BC. Each of us spoke from our training and experience to the 500 pairs of eyes looking at us to let them know they are not alone, the entirety of their health matters, and it is okay to ask for help. I took a risk being vulnerable and shared a personal story of burnout where all I wanted and all I could do was sit and stare at a wall. It would be 6 years later before I read the only cure for being overwhelmed is nothingness or non-doing. Suddenly those hours in my living room staring at the wall made sense. Many women commented that they resonated so much with what I shared and that’s why I was willing to take the risk to be vulnerable. The Metromont ladies showed up in force, filling three tables with excitement, cheers, and encouragement for me and Dawn Allen, MBA who was a panelist on navigating the corporate ladder. I remember the dream Katie Van Gieson Harrison had to create an event to bring women together to encourage and create community. It should surprise no one that she did it. All credit goes to the KVH team for the outstanding job they did. Now ladies, time to go relax and take care of yourselves after you took care of us yesterday!
