  • ??Happy Faculty Friday!?? ?? With over 37 years in art education, Dr. Hovanec describes herself as “young at heART,” blending expertise with passion. Her teaching journey began in York’s schools, and after earning her Master’s at KU, she soon became a professor here. Following a brief pause for family, she returned to education as a museum educator before securing an adjunct role at KU. Inspired by mentors, she earned her doctorate, leading to tenure and, recently, full professorship—a dream realized! ?? Dr. Hovanec’s family includes her husband, John, their three children, and Hank, their lively boxer. When she’s not teaching, she’s traveling to Costa Rica or Maine, where nature sparks her creativity. Whether immersed in Costa Rica’s lush jungles or Maine’s serene shores, these destinations recharge her. ?? As she says, “My students inspire me every day,” and Dr. Hovanec looks forward to many more years of sharing her love for art education. ?? ............. Dr. Norris finds working at KU incredibly fulfilling! ?? She loves the collaborative, welcoming atmosphere and is inspired by KU students’ dedication. Before joining KU, she taught in K-12 as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, and district coordinator, roles that deepened her commitment to education and shaped her approach to mentoring at the university level. ?????? Her favorite spot on campus is the library coffee shop, where she catches up with colleagues, meets students and enjoys a good book with a latte. ??? Outside of work, she loves running trails, traveling, and exploring new places with her husband, Kyle, and their dog, Alfie. ??♀???
