The Texas Tribune Festival starts today. Seven local and national public media journalists are leading discussions, including whether triple-digit temperatures in Texas prisons are cruel and unusual punishment, and how mariachis tells the story of everyday Texas. Many of these events are free and open to all. #TribFest https://lnkd.in/gjxvt7iH

KUT News won two National Edward R. Murrow Awards – among the most respected journalism awards in the world – for Nathan Bernier's report on I-35 noise concerns and Mose Buchele's story about a group of crows that has been visiting an East Austin library for years, written in the style of Edgar Allan Poe’s "The Raven.” These are the 9th and 10th National #Murrows for the KUT newsroom, which is funded by the local community. Jody Denberg – a bona fide radio legend – retires from the airwaves tomorrow, Aug. 2. “My wife retired in March. I want to be with her. I’m going to be 65 the day I retire. I want to get some time in a cooler climate and not have to work. I’ve been on the air five to six times a week for 40 years. I just feel like it’s a good time to bow out at the top. KUTX won all these awards this year. Somehow I won the best DJ award this year – 37 years after I won it the first time – before anyone knew I was retiring. It was sort of like a gift from the heavens.” Read McCord Jeff's interview with Jody. https://lnkd.in/g6btQ65V

These Hummers Homestead Alpacas are longtime listeners, thanks to supporters Julie and Joel Plummer. Thanks to everyone supporting our summer membership drive. https://lnkd.in/g2Zq8pDS
There are so many great reasons to support KUT & KUTX Public Media but these alpacas are my personal favorite. Help us protect these furry news junkies from predators with in-depth, fact-based journalism! donate.kut.org

We loved hosting the Austin Young Chamber's June Coffee Connection on Wednesday morning. We enjoyed making new connections, talking about our work in the KUT Newsroom and giving a tour of the station. We're looking forward to the next one in November.
