In July 2024, Noatak faced a crisis as erosion threatened its only drinking water source. Responding to an emergency declaration, Kuna Engineering, led by Civil Engineer and Noatak local Brett Kirk, quickly proposed an affordable, practical solution to secure the water line until a permanent alternative could be developed. This collaborative effort reflects Kuna’s commitment to safeguarding Alaskan communities through responsive, resource-efficient engineering. ?? Welcome Leah Ellis to Kuna Engineering! ?? We are excited to welcome **Leah Ellis** to Kuna Engineering as our newest Environmental Scientist! Leah’s journey to Alaska began in 2012 when she joined an Arctic grayling study in the remote tundra—where the Willow project is now located. That summer, she and her team lived in tents next to their study creek, experiencing the full seasonality of the Arctic. From ice-covered rivers and migrating birds to the explosion of mosquitoes and the vibrant fall colors, it was an unforgettable introduction to Alaska—one that convinced her to stay. With extensive experience in fisheries, hydrology, and stream ecology, Leah has more recently transitioned into regulatory, policy, and permitting work. She brings a collaborative approach shaped by her time in both government and consulting and is eager to support Kuna’s work serving Alaska Native communities. She is especially looking forward to working alongside the I?upiat people, upholding their core values of honesty, integrity, and respect. Outside of work, Leah spends as much time as possible exploring the outdoors with her husband and two dogs. Whether hunting, foraging, fishing, skiing, rafting, hiking, or camping, she embraces the Alaskan way of life. Welcome to the team, Leah! We’re thrilled to have you on board. ?? #WelcomeToKuna #EnvironmentalScience #Engineering #Alaska #TeamKuna

Kuna Engineering's Team in Action! ?? On Friday, January 17, Keith Guyer, a key member of our environmental team, had the opportunity to represent the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) at Campbell STEM Elementary School. Keith led a fun and hands-on construction activity using marshmallows and spaghetti, sparking creativity and innovation in the students. It was a fantastic way to inspire young minds and introduce them to the world of engineering and construction. At Kuna, we believe in fostering curiosity and providing opportunities for the next generation of engineers, and this event was the perfect example of that commitment. #STEM #EngineeringEducation #CommunityOutreach #KunaEngineering #SAME #FutureEngineers #STEMEducation
