Our team at Kuhn Riddle Architects had the pleasure of visiting Consigli Construction Co., Inc. and the construction site of the new Mass Timber project at the UMass Amherst Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS). This 90,000-square-foot facility, designed by Perkins Eastman, is set to become a collaborative hub for the future of computing and the Commonwealth. Linked to the existing Computer Science Building, this sustainable, low-carbon building will house classrooms, research labs, and community spaces designed to inspire creativity and collaboration. COMMUNITY driven and focused on a multigenerational, diverse use group, North Amherst Library was truly built for the people by the people. Funded by a private donor whose love for books was only surpassed by her love for the town of Amherst. A renovation centered around adaptive reuse of a library building circa 1893. Designing for integration, our team was tasked with thoughtfully increasing the functionality of the building while preserving the history and character of the existing library. Our top priority was making this community hub fully accessible to all visitors. We’re also thrilled to highlight our past collaboration with NEPR, where we, alongside Janson Tsai Design and Cavanaugh Tocci Associates, Inc., designed their impressive headquarters. This project involved a gut rehab of 17,000 square feet on two levels in the historic Fuller Block, transforming it into a state-of-the-art broadcast facility with studio/control room suites, interview booths, and a 500-square-foot broadcast and server equipment space. The interior design mirrors the rich history and vibrant future of the community NEPR serves. By exposing the building’s historic cast iron columns and incorporating thoughtful lighting design, we created a rhythmic flow through the circulation spaces. Hawley Manor is a planned development of 7 residential townhouse buildings in the heart of downtown Northampton. Each building consists of 4 townhouse units with 1,800+ square feet of living space on 3 floors. The units have 3 ? baths, 3 bedrooms, an attached one car garage, kitchen and dining room with a patio and balcony. The project is a Zero Energy Ready Certified project and has been scoring HERS ratings in the low 40s. Each building has been designed so the owner can incorporate a solar array on the roof and potentially operate their unit as net zero.
