Livelihoods Restoration Program: Supporting PAPs - Distribution of Cashew Saplings This year 2025, through Chilalo RAP [In-kind compensation] and its Livelihood Restoration Program – LRP, Kudu Graphite will continue to support Project Affected Persons (PAPs) to replace the PAP’s cashew trees that were lost due their land being compensated and falling within the mining license area. The program will provide them with cashew saplings to restore their agricultural yield. The Cashew seedlings have been grown from certified seeds to ensure better quality trees and are grown for approximately six (6) months in the company’s tree nursery prior to distributing the saplings to the eligible PAP’s farms for planting. The cashew saplings will be distributed between Feb and March 2025 to ensure that there is enough moisture in the soil from the rainfall during the wet season. PAP’s have already received on-farm training on land preparation, planting, tending of cashew saplings and the use of pesticides. The PAPs were very appreciative of the support and training and requested similar training and follow-up visits to their farms to monitor the preparation for the planting of the saplings and their growth progress. Livelihoods Restoration Program: Supporting Project Affected Persons - PAPs In compliance with our Chilalo Graphite Resettlement Action [Chilalo RAP] and its Livelihood Restoration Program [LRP], Kudu Graphite Ltd has continued to support Project Affected Persons (PAPs) to restore their standard of living and enhance their agricultural yield. Using one of the livelihood restoration packages [as stipulated in the LRP], the company has conducted on-farm training to Project Affected Households (PAH’s) on improved conservation farming practises which focuses on regenerative conservation farming. The training covered land preparation, seed selection, planting, crop tending/weeding, manure/compost application, harvesting and storage. The training has been done prior to the commencement of the rainy season this year. The focus of this year was on both the cash crops [sesame, pigeon peas and cashews] and food crops [maize, millets and cow peas/beans] to ensure an income and food security for the PAH. The PAPs were very appreciative of the training and requested similar training and follow-up visits to their farms for monitoring and evaluation. The Livelihood team will offer further training for crop diversification and livestock production to boost family income and economic growth of the affected households and the community at large. Supporting Sports and Games for Youth in Ruangwa District As part of its commitment to support community led initiatives and projects, Kudu Graphite, contributed sports gear [footballs, netballs, whistles, water bottle containers, and jerseys] to the youth in Nangurugai and Ruangwa District Council competing in the Secondary School Sports Unions [UMISSETA] competition held nationally each year. The support demonstrates Kudu’s commitment to its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy and supports the company’s stakeholder engagement plan and social licence to operate. Kudu Graphite Ltd is pleased to announce the commencement of early site works at the Chilalo Graphite Project site in Nangurugai Village, Ruangwa District, Lindi Region, Tanzania. This follows the completion of compensation payments and land transfer under the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP). The construction of an access road and the pre-clearing of the plant site perimeter mark the beginning of preparations for developing the Chilalo Graphite business operations. The access road will significantly facilitate the efficient transportation of materials and personnel to and from the site, ensuring smooth progress as we move forward with the project. The early work sites, which include the pre-clearing of the #mine plant site, core yard area, nursery site, main office site, and mine village access, are crucial steps in preparing the area for subsequent construction phases and laying the groundwork for future development. These early works are expected to be completed before the end of the year, paving the way for the following stages of development. Kudu Graphite Ltd Completes Compensation Payments and Advances Early Site Works Kudu Graphite Ltd is pleased to announce the completion of compensation payments for all Project Affected Persons (PAPs) within the Mining License Area of the Chilalo Graphite Project. The company ensures PAPs open joint bank accounts with their spouses to safeguard family income from compensated assets. Prior to compensation, both PAPs and their spouses participated in every step, from field asset surveys, valuation, disclosure, and compensation payment. They also received financial literacy training focused on household income and expenditure, savings, financial management, community village banking, entrepreneurship skills, and livelihood diversification. The joint bank account operation and financial literacy training have helped PAPs and their families manage compensation payments and income from agricultural produce such as sesame, cowpeas, and cashews. This has contributed to improving the livelihoods and enhancing the socio-economic status of the affected families. The completion of compensation payments and subsequent issuance of the Notice to Vacate paves the way for other activities to commence, including early site works such as access road construction and pre-clearing of the mine plant site.
