Views of a northwest DC row house that was completely renovated on all three levels. The owners requested a warm, modern, light-filled home, with the main spaces open to each other for ease of entertainment.?To accomplish this we removed all the dividing walls on the first floor to allow light to come from both ends of the row house. A custom display unit made of steel and wood was designed around a new gas?fireplace. Steel shelves above are braced with steel rods that are further tied to the unit below?via a folded steel shelf. A LED strip in?the?ceiling accents the full?display?below. The playful lines of the ceiling pendant in the?foreground?are a?purposeful contrast to the rectilinear lines of the?fireplace?display. A uniform palette of warm colors, wood floors, exposed brick, steel, and glass unify the three levels. . . . . #modern #modernarchitecture #residentialdesign

This one car garage in Northwest DC was recently converted into a library for a family’s extensive book collection. A second level was added to increase volume, and provide a reading nook. Custom steel ladders, railings and a bridge provide access to multiple bookcases. Solar tubes and new windows allow an abundance of natural light. This home in Falls Church, VA received a renovation to improve its street presence. When walking on the entry path one crosses a series of thresholds which help to separate and create new intimate garden spaces near the front door entry. Steel, concrete, and wood come together in this intricate walkway system comprised of slatted screen fences, a guiding pergola overhead, and a hard-scaped pathway. The changes in grade, volume, and materiality allow for a dynamic walkway that runs both to the new entry and continues to the rear patio where it then terminates at the patio access of the home. . . . #architecture #design #modern #moderndesign

Jane’s Garden | recently completed condo Our client purchased the unit next door to expand her living space and to host visiting family and friends. She requested that the new space be open, bright and to feel like a garden. To accomplish this we introduced bright colors like various sky blues, sunset yellow and red. Most interior walls were removed in order to bring light into the space from front to back. The blue kitchen wall faces 5 sliding doors of various blue tones?that separate the living?area?from the bedroom/den space. Tall storage cabinets, made of Ash, line a third wall.
