Being a healthcare advocate is a passion and I wake up everyday feeling motivated to support individuals with challenging healthcare issues. Here is a recent 5 star review with how we can support caregivers who are overwhelmed! Karen has been an excellent resource for my family. We found her through a Google search when my mom was having a health situation. We needed guidance navigating health appts, follow up calls, assisted living options, and organizing transportation and other care options. After an initial virtual call, we felt so comfortable with her being a go-to for our family and she has been connected with us since early March 2024.

As a healthcare advocate supporting employees in the workplace, I am reducing employee stress by managing some their healthcare worries and relieving their burdens. We can also play a crucial role in managing and mitigating the effects of "sitting disease" which is associated with prolonged sedentary behavior that can lead to various health issues. Some of the health risks include: ● Chronic conditions Sitting disease is linked to 34 chronic conditions, including obesity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and unhealthy cholesterol levels.? ● Musculoskeletal injuries Prolonged sitting can cause or worsen musculoskeletal injuries, such as neck and lower back pain.? ● Mental health issues Sitting disease can also be associated with mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety.? ● Brain health Sitting for more than 10 hours a day can increase the risk of developing dementia.? ● Increased mortality Research suggests that sitting for long periods can increase mortality and reduce life expectancy, similar to smoking. By addressing the issue of sitting disease proactively, healthcare advocates help improve employee health, reduce absenteeism, and enhance productivity in the workplace. Interested in learning more? An amazing 5 star review for KTS Advocacy. I am again humbled to help this client with a very challenging and emotional situation not just for one loved one, but for two all at the same time. Please share that healthcare advocates exist so we don't let people struggle alone! ?? Highly recommended excellent advocate, extremely professional knowledgeable but most importantly very caring which is essential as attempting to navigate the health care system while being emotionally connected to a loved one is mentally exhausting, empathy and sympathy is essential in this line of work, which Karen has always exhibited. Karen is very responsive to calls, emails etc, in more than a timely manner, response time is usually within one hour, if not immediately, also a great attribute as family members are often anxious when worrying about a loved ones health.

Unsure about preventive care coverage under your employer's insurance plan? Here are some tips! Don't pay more than you should! Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), private health plans must provide coverage for certain preventive services for adults and children at no cost and may not impose copayments or deductibles. These services are based on evidence-based recommendations provided by designated organizations. Your doctor must be in network in order to be fully covered. The most common preventive services are Routine physical exam, Well woman gynecological exam, Immunizations, Routine cancer screenings, Cholesterol & blood sugar level screenings, and Preventive care drugs. When it comes to preventive services covered at 100% by insurance, it’s essential that your provider uses the correct preventive codes. These codes help ensure that the services are appropriately categorized and billed. If you schedule a preventive care visit and ask your doctor about a specific health concern or condition, your provider may code and bill the appointment as an office visit and not for preventive care. It’s important to ask your doctor and his staff while you’re there if your visit (including labs) will be coded as preventive. How a service is coded determines how much you pay for it. Those codes will not appear on the provider’s bill or the insurance explanation of benefits. If you are reviewing your bill and see a charge that you think should have been for preventive care and covered at 100%, reach out to your insurance company to ask if they consider that a preventive service and if so, continue to ask why it wasn't paid as such! If coding needs to be changed for it to be 100% covered, you can contact your provider to ask them to make that change. For any employer that would like an a healthcare advocate to handle these situations plus many more for their employees, contact KTS Advocacy! 859-363-5981 [email protected]!

Employers, did you know that when you partner with a healthcare advocate that we can help employees negotiate medical bills and manage debt collectors??Well we can and here is one story…. One company that I partner with had an employee that came to me in hopes I could help in resolving his and his wife’s outstanding medical bills.?They were stuck not knowing how to handle it.?Like many people, they were strapped financially and couldn’t pay their bills.? ? To complicate matters, they had bills with two collection agencies.?With one provider, they both could no longer schedule their much needed treatments until there was a payment plan in place.?I reviewed the bills and after seeing that insurance reimburse on his wife’s bill, I asked for a self pay discount (not many know you can ask for this) and they reduced the bill by 50%!? I arranged a reasonable payment plan for both and they were now able to schedule their treatments again. The second collector was a little more complicated.?They filed a suit on the debt and there was a court hearing scheduled.?I contacted them and asked if they could ask for a continuance on the hearing while I tried to resolve the situation…..they agreed.?After digging into the situation, I learned their bills were coded incorrectly and could have been covered 100% by their insurance as some were preventive services.?Unfortunately, this debt was a year old by the time I got involved, the doctor had retired and they were unable to change the codes.?The provider wasn’t willing to allow them to apply for financial assistance due to the age of the debt so I had no choice but to work directly with collections on a settlement or payment plan.? As with many settlement negotiations, a discount on the balance was given but a lump sum payment has to be made which they were unable to do so we discussed what they could pay.?Even though that was less than what the collector said they would take, I was able to get them to agree to the payment plan that they could afford. This was time consuming and complicated.?By allowing an advocate to navigate this, the employee saved time, headaches & stress along with the money savings on their outstanding balances.?At the same time, this benefited the employer as well, as there was an increase in employee productivity since he was able to focus on his work and didn’t have to use work time to make these numerous phone calls to navigate this situation.?He also felt very supported by his employer with the addition of this employee benefit. Call me to learn more about adding a healthcare advocate to your benefit package...it will be the best gift to your employees!
